Jan 24, 2021 - Desert Hot Springs

Our next Stop.... Desert Hot Springs, CA and Catalina Rv Spa Resort. Its always fun rolling across country. First, our motor for the steps broke. So, we had to zip tie it in place. Next, rolling through Texas, the rear shocks blew. 7 hours to get the right kind of tow truck. Hotel in Beaumont Texas so Freightliner could fix that mess.

2020 - 2021

Dec 5, 2020 - We've arrived at Sam's Family Spa & Hot Water Resort.

25 RV rigs from the RV Club "Xscapees are camped here at Sam's. The resort has a separate area away from other RVs for the exclusive use by RV Clubs. This is nice so we can gather for socially distant group activities without non-members in the same area. We are lucky to be able to spend 3 months of the winter (December, January, & February) here in such a beautiful park, with beautiful weather and with folks that we can co-mingle with in a save way. There will be other entries of some of the activities that we were able to accomplish...

Dec 22, 2019 - Desert Hot Springs CA

A long drive today, lots of wind, and many hills meant another hour or more driving. We were waiting for a call back from from a Resort here but it never came. Plan 2 came into action...go to one of the previous resorts we had been to.That didn't work out because "the managers don't work weekends".So after driving away somewhat disgruntled we drove over to the KOA down the road. They were quite happy to take our money, the money the others lost out on. Weather was pretty windy from the start and that 18C temp that we left in Bakersfield did...

Oct 24, 2019 - Desert Hot Springs, Joshua Tree NP

Sorry for the spotty entries. I seem to have picked up a stomach bug and so have been a little under the weather. We arrived here at Desert Hot Springs on Wednesday, and boy, was it HOT! I was awash in sweat just hooking up. As we followed our GPS, Mavis, she told us to turn right one street ahead of what street we were looking for, ( and, to her credit, there was a sign there telling us to turn there too). So, we turned onto this road and decided that was definitely not the road to use, as it became rough and riddled with pot holes. So,...

Apr 7, 2019 - Cabot Pueblo

Looking for something to do, I found a Groupon discount ticket for Cabot Pueblo.. Boy are we glad we went. This place is incredible! Cabot Yerxa built this historic house to use as a teaching tool and housed artist. The Pueblo he built is located in Desert Hot Springs, Cal. His house was a large, Hopi style it contained artwork, artifacts of American Native Indians and Alaska Native cultures and early desert homesteaders. In the yard was a 15 foot tall carved head of a Waoklye Native American carved by Peter Toth in 1978. Waoklye means...

Nov 28, 2018 - Desert Memories

Desert Memories While touring through Joshua Tree National Park I found out about the Colorado Desert which is a sub-region of the Sonoran Desert. The Sonoran bumps up against the Mojave Desert, or Mohave, depending on which map or sign you are reading. Some deserts are rockier and some are dustier. Animals and plants differ too, and here in the Mojave there are Joshua Trees, cholla and desert tortoises. I have not been lucky enough to spot a tortoise yet, and thankfully have not seen a scorpion or a rattlesnake either in spite of the fact...

Born to Wanda

Nov 26, 2018 - Journey with Purple Hair

On my 69th birthday I thought, okay, just one more month to go and you will have lived longer than your mother did. As goals go it wasn't one of my more cheerful ones. Passing that milestone didn't make me feel anything more than a bit of relief, and I wasted a lot of energy over the next 11 months being pissed off about turning the big Seven-O. It sounded so freaking old, mostly because it kind of is. The day before my 70th birthday I decided to get in the car and drive to Santa Fe just in case any of my friends decided it was a time of...

Nov 11, 2018 - Skyvalley Resort - Desert Hot Springs, Ca

We had a very pleasant trip into Desert Hot Springs, CA via the Yucca Valley. A beautiful area, with the city of Yucca Valley being virtually a new development. We stopped at their Walmart only to discover it was one of the largest stores in the Walmart chain. As being the only major food outlet in the city, needless to say it was extremely busy. Continued on along the Highway into Desert Hot Springs. Spent the balance of the first day getting organized and relaxing in the afternoon 24-27c weather. The winds came up quickly and we thought a...

Apr 29, 2018 - Sam's Family Spa

We extended our stay in Apache Junction as we were trying to get our slide seals adjusted, and another day because the bedroom slide was acting crazy. We had a tech come by at 7am on Wednesday morning, and as is often the case, the slide worked fine when somebody was there to work on it. Oh well. The tech, John, was all chatty and that was the last thing I needed at 7am. Steve was on a conference call related to his consulting company, so I had to deal with the tech myself. Unfortunately, we had to pay for the service call and the minimum...

2018 Life in our RV

Jan 3, 2018 - Cal-Am Sands Rv park Desert Springs

We settled in for 2 months here although during this time we are flying to Ft Lauderdale/Orlando to spend 17 days which was a vacation we had planned for last September that had to be postponed until now. This is a large park with a mixture of park models and rvs and also has 2 nine hole golf courses attached which is right up our alley. There are 2 pools here and so far we have spent a few days at the pool it is so nice and warm. We are staying at Worldmark Indio for my birthday and to go celebrate at the Fantasy Springs casino and eat at...

Nov 17, 2017 - Nov 15th - 17th

Over the last few days we have visited some friends and gone out to dinner with them. In fact it was so good we returned to the same place yesterday after walking all over downtown Palm Springs. We ate at Rubys Diner a throwback to the 40s- 50s ,Ed refers to it as "Hamburger Heaven". There are a chain of these all over the US. Lucky us,we just signed up for our second turkey dinner here at the park. There was a huge desert fire (approx 40 acres) west of us that burned for a few hours. The sky over us was pretty ugly for some time but the...

Nov 12, 2017 - Chores today

A day for sleeping in,cleaning up a bit and laundry. We scooped a corner lot with Big Bear mountain to our right and Mt Jacinto dead center out our back kitchen window. Eds job today is hooking up our satellite system, turns it will be much more difficult as the device we use has stopped working.
