Jan 21, 2012 - Home on the Range

I apologize for taking so long in updating our location, but we have been a little busy getting settled here in El Centro, CA (I guess I have been a little lazy too). We left Yuma last Thursday morning and were here just after lunchtime as we were only about an hour away. The ride over was uneventful, except for going through the agricultural inspection station and the immigration check. If you have never lived in California you would be intimidated by these things, but our remembrances from Glendale days made these checkpoints just part of...

Jan 14, 2012 - January 14, 2012 -- El Centro, California to Willcox, Arizona

January 14 – I followed interstate 8 to Gila Bend, Arizona this morning. Near Winterhaven, CA there were lots and lots of boondockers. They were camped in the sand dunes and many of them were riding dune buggies over the sand dunes. In several places they were camped within spitting distance of the infamous fence which is being built along the US-Mexico border. I missed the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. There was only one turn off of 85, and I managed to take the wrong one. By the time I figured out what I had done, I would have had...

Feb 5, 2011 - El Centro, CA.

Feb 5-7. El Centro, CA. We had another BIG travel day of 97 miles to Desert Trail RV Park & Golf Course. Remember we had to go out on that 21 miles of mountain road. This was a nice and easy park to get to. We had a nice pull-thru site which makes parking really easy. The park was nicely layed out. I walked the park a few times. Colleen went with me the first time so I could find my way back to trailer(just kidding). We went shopping for Super Bowl necessities. Sunday we rested up for the Super Bowl. The right team won. Monday we were on...

Jan 28, 2011 - What a Day!!

We had a really long day today! JoAnn got Doug out of bed about 7:30 this morning so we could get an early start on the road. Doug normally arises between 9 and 10 so this was really early for him. As a result he knocked a full cup of coffee off of the table soaking the rug, the blinds over the window, and the crock pot cover underneath the table. JoAnn had to use her scheduled ready to go routine time to clean up the mess. Fortunately her computer was not in the spill zone. Then when Doug de-plugged the rig, she noticed that our batteries...

Living Our Dream

Jan 4, 2011 - Exploring

Just went for drive today to check out the area. Decided this is not the kind of place we want to spend months in. However.............we did find an area more suited to our likes. Took a tour of the Indio Outdoor Resorts. Now that's a nice place. We could see ourselves spending time there.

Our travels

Apr 17, 2010 - El Centro, CA

We finally left Mesa yesterday and got into El Centro, CA yesterday afternoon. We are staying at the FAMCAMP on the Navy air base. El Centro is near the Salton Sea which is actually below sea level. There is not much to do here. We did go over to Niland, CA. There are some hot springs in the area if you want to look them up. Also there is a place east of Niland called Salvation Mountain. A gentleman, Leonard Knight, started painting the "mountain" 26 years ago and has not stopped. Mr. Knight is now 78 years old, and still gives tours of his...

Mar 15, 2010 - Final days in El Centro, CA

Well, we've had a fantastic time here in El Centro, California. Met many very nice people and created many lasting memories. The fish fry the other night was unbelievable. Lots of Cod, Halibut and Shrimp. All deep fried and served with a great cole slaw. It was an all you can eat so for sure I took advantage of the quantities. We sat with our neighbours in the park, Norm and Stella from Madison, Wisconsin along wih a couple from Duncan, Vancouver Island and the other couple were from (believe it or not) Winfield, BC a couple of miles up...

Mar 9, 2010 - Bakersfield, Ca To El Centro, Ca

After another great breakfast, we headed out of the River Run RV Park for our southern trip to Temecula, CA. Very windy day, kinda cool as well. We stopped at the Target Store in Temecula to pick up a few items we needed for the the trailer and input the RV Park in Vista, CA in our GPS only to discover the place no longer exists. (gotta update the GPS apparently!!!). So we continued on the highway thinking we were going back to I-15 but ended up on I-5 South instead. No big deal, so we thought we would drive until we spotted a nice RV...

Jan 22, 2010 - It Doesn't Rain in California, Duh???

Well, we came down to El Centro, California for the warm sun and pleasant temperatures. We have whinned about the couple of dust storms, but WOW! the rain for the last 4-5 days have left everything around here flooded. We have people surrounded in their RVs by moats and one site had a sink hole form just in front of his truck. Close!!! I didn't put titles on all of the photos, I thought they were self expanatory. I know, we can't really complain. We rubbed it in about how nice and warm we have been, so here we are, getting our just...
