Apr 29, 2014 - Fairfield, CA

Stayed at Dennis and Laura’s house in Fairfield, CA, Dave’s niece and her husband. Their home is located in beautiful Napa Valley. Coming from Maine and Florida we had never seen so many vineyards in our lives! I think had we stopped at every vineyard along the way that offered wine tasting we would have ended up drunk in Mexico. We were treated to a dinner and art show at home, both being fabulous! I have been looking forward to viewing Laura and Dennis’s art collection and Dennis’s own art. We were in awe of both. Seeing Dennis’s work...

2014 Southwest Trip

Aug 16, 2013 - Sacramento and San Francisco

Yesterday we drove to Sacramento, about 45 miles. On the way there on I 80 we saw a sign "Ocean City MD 3053 miles". Along the way were orchards and fields of olives, pistachios. almonds, strawberries and peaches. It was a nice drive. In Sacramento we went to an RV show and enjoyed looking. Chuck was so happy today! We drove to Vallejo to get the ferry to San Francisco and when he went to get the 2 senior round trip tickets, the woman asked him for his ID! That just made his day. We spent the day at Fisherman's Wharf and the San Francisco...

Aug 13, 2013 - China town, San Francisco

Today we took the Amtrak Train to Emeryville, then the Amtrak bus to The Ferry Building. First time I've been in the Ferry Building which was very interesting because they had a farmers market there. There was a mushroom place with many different kinds of mushrooms that I had never heard of. The veggies of course looked great. All kinds of tomatoes, potatoes, greens, flowers, coffee, and about anything one could want. We then walked to China Town, which was a little farther than I thought and up hill. Walked around, visited a fortune cooky...

Aug 11, 2013 - Sausalito

Yesterday we drove around the upper bay to 101 and went south to Sausalito. An artsy, Avant garde, upscale type of community along the Bay across from San Francisco. We enjoyed walking along the Bay, people watching, window shopping and had to stop to eat. Chuck really enjoyed it. We ate lunch at a table set on the sidewalk. Reminded Chuck of Europe, especially because there were so many people speaking languages other than English. Then we drove up the mountain on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Awesome sights of the bay, bridge,...

Aug 8, 2013 - Vallejo and San Francisco

Yesterday we drove to Vallejo, CA to catch a ferry to Pier 39 on Fisherman's wharf. Our cruise was very comfortable and lasted alittle over one hour. We had to slow to no wake in one area due to the World Cup Sailboat races finishing in that area. Arrived at Fisherman's Wharf about 11:15. It was jacket weather and the crowd was just mild. We ate at Fisherman's Wharf and when we came out of the restaurant the streets were very crowded. We saw a fisherman fileting some tiger sharks they caught. He threw the discards into the bay where there...

Aug 5, 2013 - Fairfield, CA

We made it to Travis AFB on Sat. Uneventful drive over a mountain, with rocks next to the road on one side and a big drop on the other side without siderails. Hairpin turns all over the place with speed limits of 15-25 mph around the turns. When we hit I80 there were 6 lanes of traffic going one way, and all of them were crowded. Don't know where everyone was going, but they were going. Glad we were only on I80 a short time. How I don't miss big city traffic. The temperature actually was in the 80's. Went to Jelly Belly this afternoon....

Sep 30, 2012 - San Francisco/Bike Ride over the Golden Gate Bridge

Drove an hour to Jack London Square in Oakland since Harry knew a good place to park the big truck. While we were waiting on our ferry to San Francisco, we stopped in the bar where Jack London wrote "Call of the Wild". The tiny building settled on one end in an earthquake and the bar is still tilted. Lots of cool memorabilia on the walls too. Had to have a beer in this historic place even if it was 1/2 hour before lunch. We arrived at Fisherman's Wharf to pick up our bicycles. I did not like the 1st part through town in traffic, but then it...

Sep 29, 2012 - Another New Microwave

Harry needed his day to catch up and do errands so no trips today. Our new microwave quit after only a few days use so I helped him install another new one today too. Also went back to Vacaville for things he needed and he set up our satellite dish. Now that we are back in the lower 48 and not on cable, we can finally use it again! Grilled burgers for dinner and hit the sack early since Harry was still on who knows what time zone!

Sep 28, 2012 - Vacaville and Harry home late

Decided to check out local community of Vacaville for a visit to Old Navy and Walmart. Lots of places to wonder around and shop if I had come earlier. Even an outlet mall beside Sams and Walmart. My Tomtom kept me from getting lost and I found a new way to get back to base. The back way is through farm country so I felt like I was headed through cow pastures! I went to bed before Harry came back. He had FedX money for a cab in his budget and was not here till 1:30am. Good to have him back though no matter what time!

Sep 26, 2012 - Check out Travis AFB

Not anything big today, but checked out the base and stocked fridge and shelves from commissary. Went to Tickets and Tours to find ideas on outings here. Read some literature and found this base has a climbing gym and 12 paintball fields! Both Harrys would love that! Got some new magazines but mostly domestic and low key today. Have to catch my breath when Harry is gone.

Sep 25, 2012 - Harry to Work from Oakland

Very early morning since Harry had to catch a FedX flight out of Oakland, Ca, just south of San Francisco. We left about 4am! Lots of lanes for traffic on I-80, but not too much traffic. I was definitely not awake enough when the Tomtom started my trip home. Thought I was headed to San Francisco and away from where I wanted to go! I called Harry before he headed out and he assured me that was right and stayed on the phone till I was back on the interstate home (I-80). Another emergency averted as Harry says! Took about an hour each way and...
