Another surprising easterly gale made the crossing of the notorious San Miguel Passage a wet, rough ride. Without a safe anchorage in the lee of Santa Rosa, we headed to Forney Cove at the west end of Santa Cruz Island. A natural breakwater, good holding amongst the kelp beds, and great weather kept us there a second night. With a 3am anchor hoisting, we weaved our way through the shrimping fleet and were able to enjoy a spectacular show of shooting stars. As the sun came up and we rounded Gull Island, we set a course for Long Beach.
