Apr 25, 2010 - Lancaster, CA (Day 2) - A Great Day for Wild Flowers

(Ron Writing) The weather was just about perfect – no wind and temperature only got up into the low 80’s. That’s about as good as it gets here in Lancaster where the winters can be quite cold, the summers are way too hot, and more often than not, it is windy. This morning we attended worship service at Lancaster Presbyterian Church where we were made to feel welcome by a small but friendly congregation. After lunch we went on a long drive around the Antelope Valley west of Lancaster. This is the area with the most poppies and the wonderful...

Apr 24, 2010 - Lancaster, CA - In Search of "CA Gold"

(Ron Writing) We finally got our mail Thursday morning. It took six days to get a priority package that the PO advertises as 2 or 3 day delivery. By strange coincidence when I was talking to the mail clerk in Kernville, she mentioned that it usually takes 5 or 6 days to get a priority package from her sister who lives in Madison, SD. Madison is our “home” address where our mail forwarding service is located. After getting our mail we drove southwest on CA-178 which runs right along the Kern River all the way to Bakersfield, CA. The Motorola...

Apr 2, 2010 - The Poppy Fields

Pete & I took a quick run out to the poppy fields on the Apr. 2nd, we had heard that there was a bumper crop out there....so off we went. There were more flowers outside the Ca. Poppy Reserve than in the Reserve (as usual). The poppies were just beautiful. The sky was a little overcast & the wind was blowing but it did'nt deter the tourist from taking in the sights.

Mar 27, 2010 - Back to Southern Ca.

Leaving friends behind in Picacho, Az.(we'll miss them) & heading out for a year of travels. On the 27th (at 6:46 am) we packed it up & headed back into California. Bev & Ken saw us off. We hit heavy head winds most of our trip which didn't do much for our fuel economy, but we made it into Lancaster around 3:46 pm. We're set up at our usual hang out (the Elks Lodge). We are scheduled to leave here on Easter Sunday & we'll be heading towards Redding, Ca. to visit a friend that I use to hang with in High School, I'm looking forward to seeing...

Feb 11, 2010 - Antelope Valley Fairgrounds

I'm trying to get another update on the website and can't believe how fast the time has gone! Thurs Feb 11, we went back to Lancaster and stayed at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. We needed a full hookup site to recharge the water softener. Emily came out to see us, we had lunch at Taco Chronic and Emily went with me for my 3rd or 4th attempt at finding a dress for the wedding. Success! I found one! Friday Jack went to Chili’s for lunch with some of the guys he used to work with, Randy, Gary and BT. We drove down to Burbank to pick up the...

Jan 26, 2010 - Lancaster, CA

We left Quartzsite yesterday and stopped in Indio at the Elks for the evening. Beautiful snow capped mountains were around us. Today as we drove further west, more beautiful snow capped mountains - maybe Mount Baldy, toward Big Bear, Wrightwood. We are at the Elks in Lancaster for 3 nights then may move to Santa Clarita. We'll have to see. Jack's making plans on the fly. Meanwhile in Lancaster, there's traffic, sirens, people rude to each other and honking at each other in parking lots, low airplanes etc. We miss the rural areas...

May 20, 2009 - Day trip to the desert

Woke up super late but still had breakfast and a shower after ok'ing it with the hostel staff, we checked out and went into State St to check out a camera shop we'd seen. No luck though, as we thought all the new model compacts have larger screens and no view finder! So between a technical rock and a 0 option hard place we are left with our old camera. Back to Arry and on the road to my cousin Sharon's by about 1:30 for the 2 hour drive to Lancaster. After a long search for the address in the sweltering desert and a flat laptop battery, a...

Apr 23, 2009 - Return to California & Major Blow-out.

We returned to Lancaster yesterday (Wed.) the drive was uneventful until we got west of the town of Boron, approx. 50 miles out from our destination. When all of a sudden we heard a loud kaboom ! We saw in the rear view mirror the right rear tire on the 5th-wheel come apart (smoke spewing from the tire), it tore the fender right off of the trailer & damaged a panel just in front of the door. It took Pete about 50 yards to pull off the road, we called Good Sam Emergency Road Service & in little less than 90 minutes we had help. The young man...

We are back. We got back a day early. We left Utah and planned on stopping around Vegas but thought that we were just too close to stop now. The ending is bitter sweet. We have a lot more pictures if anyone is interested. Join us next time on another adventure..........

Jun 26, 2008 - Return to California

After 10 days in Las Vegas we decided to return to California. We spent three weeks back in Lancaster where we visited with Family & friends. We spent one afternoon at a local park with Rob,Jodi,Richard,Heather & all five grand-babies. Our Daughter-in-law Jodi bought squirt guns for the little ones to play with & they had an absolute blast. It was fun to watch our son's & daughter-in-laws get in on free for all as well. We enjoyed seeing all our friends, spending time at the Elks Lodge (where we stayed). We ate out a lot (we did very...
