Dec 18, 2019 - What You Need to Know Before Your Leave Los Angeles

Going on vacation for a week requires very little home preparation, while moving seems to necessitate an endless stream of chores; the extended trip falls somewhere in between. If you are leaving your Los Angeles home for a few months but do plan to return within a year or so, you will need to make a few crucial decisions. What To Do With Your Possessions Making a home look occupied to deter thieves for a week or two may be as simple as putting some lights on a timer and making sure mail doesn’t pile up in a visible area. However,...

City of Angels - Too Many Photos Day 62 Hollywood First day in LA we just have to go to Hollywood, well that is what it’s famous for. We decide against public transport as everything is so spread out. I’m glad Mark is happy driving (well queuing) in this horrendous traffic. We soon realise the whole of LA is just one huge traffic jam. Stop one is the Hollywood sign up in the Hollywood hills. The roads wind sharply, twisting and turning on themselves up into the hills overlooking LA. The nine letters spelling out the name of this city can...

Sep 26, 2019 - Hello LA!

@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD Even though you can book Aeroplan flight reward tickets up to a year in advance, we had a tough time finding business class tickets to Croatia, flying out of Vancouver or Seattle. At last, I had the idea to try Los Angeles. Bingo! Not only did we find a routing that was ‘all business’; but the leg from Los Angeles to Zurich was on Swiss Air, a terrific airline. It did include a five-hour stopover in Zurich before two quick flights on to Zagreb (the capital of Croatia) and Dubrovnik, but we didn’t mind because the...

Sep 5, 2019 - Brisbane to Los Angeles

5 September 2019 Departure day! Early start, final packing and ready to go by 7am. Looked like we'd be pushing to be ready on time, but we made it!! Anne, Ian & David arrived to pick us up, good trip to airport, lots of questions re visit to USA and security before we could check in. Security sticker put in back of passports with instructions not to loose it, or we would be deported as terrorists! Thankfully we have all arrived in Los Angeles without that happening. Very comfy and smooth flight on Qantas Dreamliner, arriving 20 minutes...

Sep 4, 2019 - Planes big and small and Los Angeles

This has been a very long day with a lot of ups and downs, both literal and figurative. We started out from Hot Springs this morning before dawn and had our first "commuter" flight. It turned out to be a real pleasure: the people were all helpful; the plane was comfortable for the eight passengers it carried; there was no hassle; the flight was smooth; a driver took us from the arrival gate right to Delta to get our flight to LA. MUCH easier than driving to Dallas and battling the city traffic! The flight to LA was standard: huge plane,...

Aug 5, 2019 - Two days in one

Today was another travel day that was two days in one, a day in South Korea before catching the flight and the same day spent in LA. We had the third seating for the breakfast buffet that didn't start until 8:50 allowing us to sleep in a little bit. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and then returned to the room to rest and finish packing. Our pick-up time was 10:30, so we went down to the lobby at 10:15 to checkout and pay the bill, and our driver was already there. We had an hour drive to the airport so we both read on the way. At the...

Jul 8, 2019 - Presidential Library & La Brea Tar Pits

Today we went to the free hot/cold buffet breakfast. No waffles, they had the pancake machine instead. Afterwards we relaxed in the room until it was time to leave, about 9:30. We drove over to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library for the 10:00 opening. The library had a special exhibit entitled "The World of da Vinci". We decided to tour the library and see the exhibit last. The library was a chronological journey through Reagan's life. Beginning with the values he learned from his childhood in Dixon, Illinois, through his college years...

Jul 7, 2019 - Travel day to LA

Today is a travel day to California. John picked us up at 8:00 am and transported us to Newark Liberty International Airport. We arrived about 8:40. Usually, we walk right up to an open kiosk, or have to wait behind someone to finish. Today, probably because of the end of the 4th of July holiday weekend, there were long queues for the kiosks! Unfortunately, ours did not work properly. It said it was printing our luggage tags, but it lied, ladies and gentlemen. It printed the boarding passes, no problem. We found an United rep and they...

Apr 21, 2019 - And The Journey Begins

We have waited for this day for months. I feel bad that we are leaving on Easter Sunday, but we didn’t even think about it. Easter is fairly late this year. Our first leg is an overnight flight from LAX to Munich. We both hope to get some sleep. After a brief layover in Munich, we will on our way to Amsterdam for a couple of days before our cruise starts on Wednesday.
