Jun 4, 2018 - A Wonderful Week

We had such a good time with Anita and Mike! Anita planned a few outings for us and we did a bit of exploring on our own. Our first trip was just around town, where we saw the museum and drove through the streets of town. The old workers homes, though relatively small and reasonable back during the lumbering days, are now fairly pricey. You can definitely see pride of ownership as they are mostly well-kept and landscaped. We also drove into nearby Mount Shasta to check out the mountaintop and explore the town. We were there on a Sunday; not...

May 31, 2018 - "Mother McCloud"

McCloud is an old Lumber Mill town. It was built and developed specifically for the lumbermen and their families to have a place to live near their work. We visited a museum that gave a lot of the history through artifacts and pictures. Back then they were cutting virgin forests with absolutely huge trees, some so big only one would fit on the trucks used to haul them to the mill. In the display case was a 2-person chain saw with an 8-foot blade. The old mill building is still in fairly good shape, and is used for other things now. It is...

May 29, 2018 - The Cuz

It did not take long to get to McCloud where Anita and Michael live. Even though it was the end of the Memorial Day weekend, the majority of the traffic was headed in the opposite direction. It was a scenic 2-lane road with a definite change in vegetation as we climbed higher. Beautiful tall trees, and the air smelled so good! We had been here once before, many years ago when I had my first mid-life crisis convertible. And it snowed! We spent the night getting up regularly to scoop snow of the rag top, and ended up with (literally) several...

Aug 30, 2016 - Two Many Adventures

John and I often talk about how lucky we have been during the past eight plus years as we have never seen an accident or had any kind of emergency where we are stranded. Well, we must have forgotten to knock on wood. Today, was our day for new adventures. -- We were up and on the road early this morning. It was cloudy; the perfect kind of weather John loves to drive in because he will have no sunshine in his eyes. -- We headed south on Interstate 5, back into California. As we passed the Oregon/California borderline, the sky was filled...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Aug 10, 2015 - California

We continued our drive south with a plan to stop either in Klamath Falls, OR or Redding, CA. Our morning drive took us along the Rogue River with some nice sights along the way. In Klamath Falls we drove around looking for a place to have lunch and finally gave up and continued on south. We finally stopped in Dorris, CA but there was not anything there so we had a sandwich in the RV and continued south. We decided to adjust our plan and stop at an RV park just south of Mount Shasta. Along I-5 we had some good views of Mt Shasta, but smoke...

Long drive from Elko to McCloud after my son called to tell us the pipes in well house had frozen and broken. Decided to boogie on as far as we could. Diane's Parents and Daughter and her husband met us there with dinner. Nice visit, good to see everyone after 5 months on the road.
