Jul 8, 2017 - CA-Poway-Clark&Brenda's

We had lunch at Clark & Brenda's. Mike taught with Clark at the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton Ohio in the early 80s. We haven't seen each other since the early 90s. It was great seeing them and reminiscing and talking about their plans to do more traveling in their RV. We look forward to seeing more of them while we are in CA.

May 24, 2009 - Eastward Ho!

We started out at dawn, cool under the seasonal marine layer, a Southern California phenomenon. The early start would move us through a large area of the hot desert before the 100+F heat grabbed hold. After descending from the Cleveland National Forest into El Centro, the lowest city in the USA, we pulled into a rest-stop and had breakfast while watching farmers working the fields. El Centro, the center of the Imperial Valley and lying 50 feet below sea level, is a major producer of a large variety of fruits and vegetables. Most of the...

Dec 19, 2008 - Final leg home

I plan on making it home today which makes for a long day of driving so, with a 6:45am start on a clear, crisp morning, I backtracked to Safford and continued weston the historic Old Western Highway, through more miles cotton fields. Cotton fields line the highway for some 82 miles from Duncan to Peridot. The sky, as we drove through north Yuma Proving Grounds, was full of interesting ‘cloud’ formations. These were created by contrails whipped into mares tails by the high altitude winds. A rest stop provided e with an opportunity to...

Jul 2, 2008 - From San Diego to Orange County

July 1 We drove to San Diego County; the unplanned stop caused by my needing to see my dentist. All turned out well and, as the cousins needed a Chinese meal fix, we had dinner at Wild Ginger in Poway, my hometown. July 2 We left early and drove to Oceanside then onto 5 Freeway which is along the Pacific coast and skirted Camp Pendleton oceanfront and on to Mission Viejo. At Chris (my son) & Jennifer's home we swapped the motor home for my car left there earlier. We then headed north to Orange County to meet with Deborah in Anaheim. Then it...

Mar 23, 2008 - Day 49-50: Easter weekend

Saturday was a day to be flat-out tourists once again. Of the big three San Diego attractions, we had just The Wild Animal Park yet to visit, and that took much of Saturday. We arrived at the 9 am opening time and proceeded immediately to the lion exhibit, which boasted seven cubs less than four months old. The cubs would wrestle and play in short bursts of energy and even play-attack the two mothers and the large male. After watching the lions for 10 or 15 minutes, we were off to ride the tram to some of the further reaches of the large...
