Jul 26, 2015 - Anchors Aweigh

In May of 2010 Jared made a huge decision. He informed us he was enlisting in the Navy. We did not know if it was the best decision but he had a plan in place and it seemed to us he was serious. Although we did not want him to go he was determined and we respected his decision. When he left for navy basic training in early 2011 it was a very sad for us. We missed his something terrible. We wrote to him almost daily but it took weeks to get our first communication from him. He was training in Great Lakes, Illinois in January and the...

Jul 21, 2015 - Fighting the good fight-From white to black beltuntitled

We tried all type of sports but not much seemed to interest Jared. He always liked the Nina Turtles and the Mighty Morphine's on TV. One day at the Rohnert Park Community Center Pam was exercising and a group of students were practicing Taekwondo. The light came on and Jared was hooked. We still think of Mr Shaefer his teacher and what a great roll model he was for Jared. I think he became one of his hero's and we could not think of a better one.

Apr 10, 2010 - Sonoma area

Friday, April 9, to Sonoma and another tasting. (This is getting to be a habit). Sunny, again, with high temperatures of 67. You bet, we went to the coffee shop. The poor Owner, Leosara, was dragging. We left her about 11 PM the night before and she had to get up at 5 to open her shop at 6:30. I bet she is thinking, no more volunteering to take these darn travelers around San Francisco area. We finished our coffees and I completed my computer work and off we went to Sonoma Village. I don’t know if I can say it enough, but driving these back...

Apr 9, 2010 - Big day today

Thursday, April 8, tour through San Francisco and a wonderful surprise. Sunny and 65 degree high. I’m not sure how to start this day’s Journal, but here goes. As it turns out, we have been staying at a Doubletree Inn since Monday night. That is good and bad in that it is a great place but it offers no free breakfast. Being cheep, we looked for the most cost effective option to the $8.00 breakfast they offered. We found within walking distance a small coffee shop with wireless internet capability, so we gave it a try Tuesday morning. Well,...

Apr 8, 2010 - Wine tasting fun

Wednesday, April 7, wine tour in Sonoma area. Sunny and high temperature of 74. Well, this was quite a day going from winery to winery. Somebody has to do it. So this is how it went. We were picked up at our Inn at 10:30 in the morning along with 3 other people, and were whisked to the Rodney Strong Winery by 11:30. Five minutes after we arrived we had wine in our hand. Now I have had so Rodney Strong wine before, but it was more the $10. to $15. a bottle variety. What we were tasting was the $30. to $40. a bottle stuff, and it was great....

Apr 6, 2010 - Trip to Rohnert Park

Monday, April 6, trip to Sonoma Country. Sunny with high temperature of 68. We left a little late today, because I had to find a place that had wireless internet; so, I could send the Journal that I wrote last night. Leaving late actually worked in our favor. After we were on the road heading toward San Francisco, we passed a sign outside Monterey that said, “artichoke capital of the world”. We were wandering what the heck was growing in the fields we were passing!! Now we knew, artichokes. Past that sign we saw another one stating fried...

Jun 23, 2008 - Walnut Creek/Sonoma

Stayed at Wine Country RV Park - Sonoma in Rohnert Park. Dan took a day to visit his ex-coworkers in Walnut Creek while Karen enjoyed shopping. Visited several wineries; Korbel had a very nice, informative champagne tour. We visited a couple of the wineries that we had bought futures in the past. One of them, Mazzocco, has sold out of all of their Zin's except one! We had bought futures of their Pony Zin in 2006 and friends of ours bought in 2007. They had received 90 -92 ratings on their wine. I was glad to see they were doing so well! We...
