Aug 13, 2015 - Family Time
We left McCloud and hit the road to B&B RV in Redding, CA for maintenance on our slide out. B&B staff was friendly and helpful and got us on the road, including an oil change, in about 4 hrs. Many thanks to our new campground friend, Johnny, who helped us get the service appointment set up. After the service, we continued south to Corning, CA and stopped at the Rolling Hills Casino RV park. This park had full hookups and very large sites, that made it easy to get in and out. We visited the casino, had dinner and used our free $$ for a few...Jump to full entry
Oct 23, 2014 - WRAPUP (rap pup?)
so it’s only right to wrap up this journal properly, with some thoughts on the ‘walkabout’ (as my wife called it) and things i learnt on the way. this may be a long post. and for those who like numbers, i’ll post some final statistics at the end...... first, i went back to post #1 (which i’d written the week before i left in january) to see what my thoughts were then – and how reality compared! and reading it now, my expectations were right on target – it was every bit the challenge i expected, and the fun adventure i expected, and i was...Jump to full entry
Oct 20, 2014 - [driving home] what a long, strange trip it’s been!
truckin’, like the doo-dah man once told me “you’ve got to play your hand sometimes, the cards ain’t worth a damn if you don’t lay ‘em down......” sometimes the light’s all shinin’ on me other times i can barely see lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it’s been! [Grateful Dead, Truckin’] OK, it has certainly been a long strange trip – but i’m finally home now after almost 9 months on the road. i spent the last few days coming up the california coastline from san diego to santa cruz and then headed northeast to my home in...Jump to full entry

Jun 6, 2010 - Life Inside a Storage Locker
Greetings, Grasshoppahs. It is we, the Road-Master and Mistress, here to regale you with another short-short story from our endlessly entertaining road wars. Currently we are in Roseville, CA., which, if you read maps the way I do, is slightly down and to the left of Placerville, CA., where we just were, and about two inches up from Pacifica, where we were just before that and which is in turn about a quarter-inch down and to the right of San Francisco, where we weren’t, except for the obligatory tourist days spent re-seeing things like the...Jump to full entry
Oct 16, 2009 - Our first day with a 5th wheel...
We pulled away from the house, filled up with fuel (diesel for the truck, gas for the generator and propane for the heat and cooking tanks). Pulled out with high expectations of our first day on the road and immediately the tension of pulling this huge 32’ trailer became hauntingly imposing. I had to plan all routes to exclude hard turns because this truck had a short bed and couldn’t make sharp turns without punching out the rear windows of the truck. Oh, I almost forgot to add that I was bringing down a bunch of stuff for the kids, Daniel...Jump to full entry
I leave in 19 days!!! The only thing I am nervous about it getting a flight to Frankfurt since I will be flying standby. There are six planes for me to catch out of SFO before I have to buy my ticket which will be a lot of money. So pray I get on!!! I may have to spend three nights sleeping at SFO as well. NOT COOL, but when flying standby I guess I have to sacrifice. See you all in EUROPE!!!Jump to full entry
Mar 19, 2006 - Col. Allensworth State Park, CA
This is an odd little State Park not far off the main highway and made for an OK overnight spot. Once again, we picked a just-about-deserted campground... right next to a major train line. Can't complain, though, the trains didn't run too often! Not sure what the point of the park was - we didn't stay long enough to read the signs and headed right on over to Park Sierra.Jump to full entry
Mar 8, 2006 - Kingman to Hoover Dam to Delano CA
Up for a nice hot breakfast and on our way down the road to Hoover Dam. Spent several hours at the dam learning the history and viewing the operations. What an amazing work of man. Drove onto Boulder City, bought some groceries and were on our way around Las Vegas and heading towards CA. Stopped at a small town and had a picnic at a post office before starting across Ca. Took turns driving across the Mojave Dessert...amazing sight to come towards Mojave with the outlines of the mountains with windmills on top and a large group of planes...Jump to full entry
