Feb 18, 2012 - Borrega Springs, CA

Our friends, Tom and Donna, took us on a trip to Borrega Springs which is about 2-1/2 hours south of Hemet. An artist by the name of Ricardo Breceda has created in excess of 125 metal sculptures that reside in the desert surrounding the town in full view for all to enjoy. You have to get up close and personal to really appreciate the amount of work and imagination that has gone into these creations. The photos we have included represent only a fraction of what we enjoyed seeing. We had a great ride through some more incredible mountains,...

Feb 17, 2012 - San Clemente, CA

We finally laid eyes on the third major body of water on our "Sea-to-Shining-Sea" tour. We took a ride to the Pacific through some beautiful mountains and the communities that lay at their base. Camp Pendleton (a Navy and Marine base) is near to Oceanside and we were fortunate enough to see some helicopter pilots in training. The more we see of Southern California, the more we like it.

Mar 18, 2011 - Still another day at the beach

Oh Boy another day at the beach. Woke up with the sun shining and a cool breeze blowing. Had a nice leisurely breakfast followed by a nice walk to see a washed out road on the base. Charlotte and Kris continued on another walk down to the San Onofre Nuclear Plant looking for three eyed fish walking on the beach (the fish). There walks for the last couple of days have turned up a treasure trove of shells, rocks and miscellaneous nick naks. I stayed home (?) working on the computer and trying to clean out the waste tanks. For the next several...

Mar 17, 2011 - Relaxing at the beach

Another rough day at the beach. We hopped out of bed at the crack of dawn (almost, it was 8 AM) and meet the day head-on with a nice leisurely breakfast and then some time chatting with Kris. We then took a little walk and then back to the rig. On many of my walks I have stopped and chatted with other people camping here, what a diverse group. Talked with a guy from Denver CO who had been in the Army and then the Air Force and had received a Purple Heart. Then just down from him is several Airstream's with a bunch more coming in the next...

Mar 16, 2011 - Off to the Beach

Started off early today to get a run at Grapevine. As we were passing the town of Madera a guy passed us pointing up. We pulled off, parked and got out to look and discovered that we had left the TV antenna up. Opps. Well, we got back on the road and started cruising along. I wanted to stop at Grapevine to fuel up (truck and people) and take a quick breather before heading over the pass. I have been a little (maybe more than a little) nervous about going up the steep grade pulling a heavy trailer, but even more so, about coming down on the...

Oct 6, 2010 - Yuma to Tucson

Up really early after our International Mexico Bike Ride, we strolled intot he Casino for coffee, breakfast and a little draw poker for me. I almost doubled my money at the slot machine and met Steve at the bus soon after. There was a beautiful sunrise that we both enjoyed. We got the bikes all tied down, the entry step would not go into the bus when we closed the door so we had to ask someone to kick it in as we were leaving...aaak! It was an easy drive to Tucson about 200 miles and we arrived at the Voyager RV Resort, where Peter and I...

Oct 5, 2010 - San Clemente - 1st Day of Road Trip 2010

We left this morning about 10:30 headed south through San Diego and ended up parking at an Indian Casino outside of Yuma, Arizona. We could have driven alot further but decided to go on an INTERNATIONAL BIKE RIDE (to Mexico). After parking at the Casino, we unloaded the Townies and headed south. Love riding the Townies! About 30 minutes into the ride the dark clouds opened up upon us with such hard hitting rain, I couldn't see through my sunglasses and we were both soaked to the skin. We found a place to stop right at the border, behind a...

Oct 4, 2010 - San Clemente - Day before departure

I've been trying to get ready to leave for weeks now. Steve has been a big help, as is Marcus, Cryssie, Laura, Cal, Dawn, Chris and Bill and of course Mom. Unfortunately, while trying to get everthig done, I tripped where the drivey meets the dirt. I was able to keep working for 4 more hours but found that I should have stopped and at least applied ice. As I was strapping the Townies (bikes) to the back of the car, I finally couldnt put any weight on my left foot and hoppped back to the bus and layed down. I really thought that I'd have to...

Steve retired last December from PMT, a trucking company that transported new cars to dealers. He has a great son, Eric, who lives with him and his Mom in San Dimas, California. Steve enjoys bike riding, dancing, hiking and off roading in his Jeep. We've become great friends and he has agreed to help me drive the bus to Florida! We've alot of fun together and I sure appreciate the...
