Apr 26, 2010 - Lets Have Alittle Cheese With Our Wine

Today we leave my father in laws favorite county "SONOMA" and head north to or almost to Fort Bragg. Thru wine country which are an average of 10,000 acres each. That's a lot of grapes. What a great ride from Petaluma to Scotia. We are getting into the redwood trees and they are getting big. Followed a river called the "ELL" river. It was as windy as the road and just a great color. Found a nice camp owned by a Church and was only 12.50 a night Passport America. Great price and very nice people. Called Stafford RV PARK in Scotia CA. 95565....

Dec 15, 2009 - Let it Rain, let it rain, let it rain

It rained all day, so we decided to spend another day here at the Strafford RV park in Scotia. We made a quick trip into town for some grocerys but other than that we worked on Christmas cards, and just relaxed all day. Hope for drier weather tomorrow so that we can get back on the road.

Dec 13, 2009 - Santa Rosa to Scotia, CA

Today was pretty much just a driving day. Because of the rain yesterday, we didn't open the trailer last night, so we were able to get started rather early (10:30am) this morning and started north again. We didn't "cruise" 4th street today, but we did drive Santa Rosa Blvd, on our way to get fuel. (exciting, huh?). I failed to mention that last night I was able to contact an old friend, Lenny. Lenny and I have known each other since the very early 80's when I was at Coast Guard Group Key West and he was at Coast Guard Communication Station...

Oct 22, 2007 - Humboldt Forest

We have continued our southward migration down the coast of California on highway 101. We passed through Eureka to a a campground near Scotia, about 20 miles south. We are right on the edge of the redwood forests near the beginning of the Avenue of the Giants. On Sunday Sue and I ran in races on the Avenue. It was a great place to run providing both scenery and almost constant shade from the sun. We had good runs with Sue setting a personal best time for the 5K while I finished my tenth half marathon since we hit the road in 2004. We went...

Dec 2, 2006 - Drive through the Redwoods

Today we took a trip south to drive the Avenue of the Giants which is the old Highway 101. It runs south starting about 13 miles south of Fortuna and then going through Rio Dell, Weott, and several small towns along the Eel River that were wiped out in the December, 1964 floods. I was interested in seeing the area because I was a newbie on an emergency operating center radio to assist in the same flood in the Sonoma County area in 1964. The Russian River flooded and wiped out Guerneville, Forestville and several small towns in the area....
