Jun 18, 2019 - June 17-One week to go

Starting to get excited and continue to train. Climbed up Cavedale Road in Sonoma. About a 1500 foot climb over 5 miles. Day overall was 71 miles and 4058 feet of climb. Felt good at end of day. Seems like to key is to eat and drink properly which I believe I am getting under control. Eat and drink even though you may not be hungry or thirst or you will pay the price later

May 30, 2019 - Redding to Sonoma, CA

May 30, 2019 No way to get Lyft or Uber to pick us up so we drove to Claire’s Restaurant and Lounge. Yes, it did look like a lounge with dark décor but the flatware and glasses were upscale. Each guest was asked if the evening was a special occasion so I suspect it is a “date night” restaurant. The menu was very imaginative and the wine list, which Bob did not think they had other than wine by the glass, was a good list. Dinner came with a soup or salad. Bob started with ahi tuna poke which was served in a large bowl covered by a rice paper...

Jun 5, 2017 - Winnemucca, NV to Sonoma, CA

June 5, 2017 We were on the road by 7:15 (excited to be going home???) We tried to identify the highlights of our trip. Most had to do with people we visited this time which was more than usual. That said, the experiences we had were special but it just says that friends and family are VERY special. We traveled 8,400 miles and took over 700 pictures this trip! That is about our average for the past 7 trips in the US and Canada. We have already started planning for our next rig trip which will be in September in NZ. We are renting a MB...

Sep 20, 2016 - Sea Ranch to Sonoma, CA

September 20, 2016 Had breakfast with the Carruthers and headed on a very familiar route home. We have spent many times with the family over the past 35 years in Sea Ranch. We did the obligatory Costco stop and home by 1:00. Then the fun begins cleaning out the rig! We drove 7,800 miles this trip over 9 weeks. We cannot believe the Alaska trip we planned for so long is over! Now we are thinking we might try renting a rig in New Zealand. Nice to be home in our beautiful Sonoma though.

Nov 6, 2014 - Sea Ranch to Sonoma

November 6, 2014 A wonderfully warm and sunny morning. Again, we had a leisurely breakfast with Jim and Marcia. Bob read the NYT and Jim was the golf course monitor and had to work! Marcia and I took a 5 mile walk which was glorious. By 11:00 we needed to leave and finally go home. Hard to believe it is over. 6,000 miles this trip! Although nothing is definite, we plan to drive to Alaska next year, The trip will be later so we need to fit around our social commitments! Until then, travel and be safe!

Jul 27, 2014 - Final Note on Diane's Great Adventure

Ol' Betsy (my van) and I logged 4,667 miles, visiting 13 National Parks or Monuments over a 7 week period. Whew! And with no major mishaps or worrisome situations along the way. I was totally blessed with good weather, good road karma, and wonderful friends. And I am totally hooked on traveling and have a strong case of wanderlust now. I just can't decide where to go next! Thanks so much to friends and family that followed along with me via my blog, emails etc. Your little notes and comments along the way kept me connected to home and also...

Jul 10, 2014 - July 10 - HOME!

7/9 – 7/10 Truckee then Home! A wonderful way to end a fabulous trip was to spend my last “road trip” days in Truckee with family. I did a final campsite overnight at Donner Lake because Ali’s house was full of visitors. Sofia came and joined me for the afternoon and we rented a paddle wheel boat, swam, hiked, and then went back to Ali’s for a great dinner on their deck. This morning I joined Ali in her annual tribute to Sam’s birthday with a gin fizz at Fifty Fifty before hitting the road. My sweet little cat Brody was there to greet me...

Jul 8, 2014 - Heading home

7/7-7/8 Twin Falls to Winnemucca Back to back 300 mile days and I am a bit tired of driving. This morning I went to Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls ID and hiked around. Turns out there seem to be a lot of falls that are billed “bigger than Niagra Falls” because of the height. Shoshone was nothing really special, but then I am a bit jaded after this trip. There were pictures posted that showed the falls before the dam went in and THEY looked magnificent. It was said that you could see the spray and hear the roar from miles away. It was hot even...

Jul 7, 2014 - July 4th in Jackson, then Starting Home

7/4 – 7/7 Fourth of July in Jackson, WY, then heading home: Jackson was very fun and festive over the fourth. Weather was cool in a.m. and upper 80s in afternoon. Exercise consisted of shop till you drop, and when we dropped it was into a restaurant to eat and drink. Had drinks and a great steak dinner at Cowboy Bar & Grill one night, Nani’s Italian 2nd night, and Local (Local was the best) last night with Pam. Lunch at Genieveves, also very good. We went and toured Teton Village on Saturday and had lunch at the Four Seasons Hotel which...

Jul 3, 2014 - Grand Teton NP 7/2-3

7/2 – 7/3 Wed: We got in a short hike around Jenny Lake, taking the boat ride back down to the trailhead. Then we grabbed a spot of lunch and off to Coulter Creek Marina to take a tour boat around Jackson Lake. Did not see much in the way of wildlife, and it was hot, but you can’t fault the scenery! Dinner was at Signal Mountain Lodge, which also commands a beautiful view of the Tetons, and food was again excellent. We are all marveling in the array of wildflowers. Thurs 7/3: Pam and I took a 10 mile “sunrise float” down the Snake River....

Jul 2, 2014 - Last Day at Yellowstone then back to Jackson & Tetons

6/30 – 7/1 Last day in Yellowstone then on to Grand Tetons with Holly & Pam Beautiful weather, though still real cold in mornings. Monday, 6/30 Jude and I moved campgrounds, back down to Grant Campground so we will be closer to airport tomorrow. Early morning we came upon a big lone Bison bull that was real feisty. He watched the small crowd for awhile and then decided to swim Yellowstone River. We drove through Fishing Bridge area and then down the shoreline of Yellowstone Lake which is close to size of Lake Tahoe but is higher in...

Jun 29, 2014 - Glorious Yellowstone 6/27 - 6/29

6/27 – 6/29 Glorious Yellowstone 6/27 was a good day for travel because it was raining AND hailing off and on! Got to Canyon Campground and weather report was some rain and temperature down to low 30s! So Jude and I opted to sleep inside “Betsy”. We were quite cozy and warm. We spent Saturday hiking the rim of Yellowstone’s Grand Canyon. Beautiful waterfalls and canyon! Weather was off and on light rain then sunshine. We wore ourselves out with all the hiking up and down canyon trails. Saw a family of Bald Eagles encouraging the little one...
