Sep 1, 2020 - Our Time in Tahoe--Adventures

All right! So this is the post where I talk about stuff we did in Tahoe! Whooo~ - We went swimming, we went hiking, we did a lot of shopping, we went to visit Jeff... that's about everything we did. Most of it was on the motorcycle, and we would leave the pets in the van in the perfect Tahoe weather. - One of the first things we did was go walking on the trails around the visitor center. The visitor center itself was closed, apparently it's only open like two months a year. We drove there on the bike so we were lugging our gear with us. We...

Sep 1, 2020 - Our time in Tahoe--campsite focus

Hello! Sorry for not posting for a while guys. We were getting low on money so I had to focus on work, which took (and continues to take) up most of my time. Anyway, we made it to Tahoe at the end of August (August 27th to be exact) and managed to get amazing free camping just 25 minutes outside of South Lake Tahoe in "Christmas Valley" AKA Meyers. The camping we got was beautiful and had bathrooms, picnic tables, bear boxes, and fire rings (though with fire restrictions we weren't allowed to use those, understandably). - I decided to split...

Aug 21, 2020 - Lake Tahoe

It's been a few days since I have had cell service or internet, so I am going to do most of this post by memory. That's not my strong suit. We traveled from Yosemite up to Lake Tahoe which was a very long and strenuous drive. All switchbacks and I mean really tight ones. We took a great scooter ride around Lake Tahoe. The trip was 68 miles and was very enjoyable. The air was so clean and cool it was simply a pleasure to breathe. This is certainly one of those places you might want to live, if you can afford it. WE CAN'T!!!! That being...

Apr 22, 2019 - South Lake Tahoe

I woke up early (still on EST time) and read a little, before showering and getting dressed for breakfast. I went over to breakfast around 6:45. There was only a family of three (the cute little girl was on crutches, and was missing her right leg.) It was the typical breakfast buffet, which I was counting on - eggs, sausage, cereal, pastries, waffle machine, etc. After breakfast, I packed the car, checked out and headed to my final destination, South Lake Tahoe. Around Sacramento, I veered off of I-80 to take US 50 to South Lake Tahoe. It...

Aug 17, 2017 - South Lake Tahoe

Aug 17, 2017, Just a travel day today, headed to South Lake Tahoe to visit friends from UPS days, Bob and Fran Ragona. In June of 2007, a big wildfire starting from an illegal campfire spread through the South Lake Tahoe area burning 254 homes. One of those homes belonged to Bob and Fran. They have now rebuilt and have a lovely home. Across the street and up on the hill the burned stubs are a frightening reminder of that fire. We had a wonderful visit catching up on old times. Best of luck and our prayers are with Fran and she finishes her...

Mar 29, 2017 - Heavenly Lake Tahoe

What's your favorite place you have visited? I get this question a lot. It is a very tough answer. I have been so blessed and witnessed some truly incredible scenery, views, sights, and awe inspiring monuments. I would say I truly don't know what my favorite is, but ok, I'd be lying. Lake Tahoe. It is, as the local ski resort is so aptly named, Heavenly. Me and the pups spent almost 3 weeks in South Lake Tahoe. The lake itself is majestic. It is the 2nd deepest lake in the U.S. and apprises 72 miles around the entire lake. It is home to 12...

Jun 26, 2016 - Sunset Dinner Cruise

Tonight we went on a Sunset Dinner Cruise aboard the M.S. Dixie on Lake Tahoe. This is a large paddle boat with several levels. We found out when we picked up the tickets we got online that we were on first call. This meant we would be seated for dinner as soon as we boarded the boat. As we boarded at 5:30, we were stopped for the obligatory cheesy picture. We were then told we could pick up a glass of champagne and be shown to our table. There was one other couple already at our table. We quickly shared introductions as we sipped our...

Jun 25, 2016 - Saturday Brunch

On our travels around the lake the last two days, we saw a large electronic billboard advertising brunch on Saturday and Sunday at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Sounded good so we headed out around noon today. We parked in the self parking and were later surprised to find out there was no fee. Woohoo! This is more a hotel and casino than a Hard Rock Café. We had to walk thru the casino which was not as big as I expected. The restaurant was at the very back. I think we had more of a buffet in mind. This was a sit down place your order kind...

Jun 24, 2016 - Around the Lake

We headed back up Highway 50 on the east side of Lake Tahoe but this time we took Highway 28 instead of staying on 50 to Carson City. As we approached Kings Beach on the top of the lake we both felt like we saw some things that looked familiar. We decided to stop to take some pictures and for ice cream and were able to enjoy our treats on the patio which meant Ranger was able to stay with us. We saw a few RVs in an area that could have been where we stayed in 1983, but when we went back to check it out we realized in was more a storage area...

Headed West 2016

Jun 23, 2016 - Up the east side of Lake Tahoe

Yesterday we headed east to the Tahoe Valley RV Resort in South Lake Tahoe, California. This is an Encore Thousand Trails park set in a pine forest. It is the kind of park you think of when camping is involved. It reminds me of camping at a state park in East Texas. When we finally maneuvered our fifth wheel thru the obstacle course of tall pines while avoiding the cement picnic table and leaving enough room for slide outs (quite the juggling act I must say), we were able to set up. Having paid for a premium site we were a little...

Jul 27, 2015 - South Lake Tahoe Part 2

I said a couple of days and it has been almost a week but there has been adventure on the road, which we will get to later. The Sullivan Family Reunion is an awesome experience in terms of love and trust. We all know one another and we move from conversation and activity without hesitation or anxiety. My sons had not seen most of their aunts since the 2010 reunion but with Facebook and the family calendar everyone just hugs and joins in without a missed step. In my last post a mentioned Tom and Rio and the fact that Rio chewed a hole in...

Jul 24, 2015 - South Lake Tahoe Part 1

I have decided to do Tahoe in 2 pieces because I do not have access to some of the photos until we get to Kanab, UT. Our target for this trip was South Lake Tahoe, CA and the Sullivan Family Reunion 2015. The reunion takes place every 5 years. We did not go to the first one which was in Tahoe in 1980. Patrick and I started going in 1985. In 1985, 1990, 1995, and 2000 we were in South Lake Tahoe. In 2006 (Tom’s mom died in 2005 so it was postponed) we were on the Sacramento River near Rio Vista, CA (this one included a wedding of one of our...
