Jun 18, 2017 - Salmon River, Idaho

Today we drove only about 150 miles to Salmon Idaho. The drive was really easy as we followed the river most of the way. This is cattle country and potato farms, Very rural and more cows than people. But the Salmon river is beautiful and there are lot of fishing outfitters in the area. The only problem now is that the river is really full. Something that has been a constant theme out here. Seems all that snow that fell during the winter is now melting and filling rivers and lakes. I just saw an article that said for the first time in years...

Aug 5, 2016 - Salmon, Idaho

From Mountain Home, we drove north to Salmon, ID. The park where we stayed was right on the Salmon River which is known for its rapids and fishing. The route took us right past Craters of the Moon National Monument. While we do not often stop to see sights in the motorhome, this was right on the road and had adequate parking. The national monument protects a vast ocean of lava flows with scattered islands of cinder cones and sagebrush. The lava did not come from one volcano, but about 15,000 years ago, the lava welled up through a series of...

Sep 2, 2012 - Day 16, We take a detour due to fires in Montana, head to Salmon, Idaho

Day 16, Sunday 9/2. We get up about 9am. It is cold until the sun starts popping up over the hills. Bob fries up ham for both (and 3 eggs for himself-Bill does not eat eggs) We are lazy about packing up and we get out somewhere around 1PM. We take rte 50 to 388 headed towards Montana and I-90. We pick up "Raliegh" who was one of three guys hunting bear and was stuck with a blown engine. He is a self described "fat guy" who is Montana's version of a good ole boy. We take him on rte 339 to St. Regis so he can call for help. (We were in a...

Jun 29, 2012 - Idaho Summary

Once again we find ourselves behind on the journal, both with narrative and digital record. From our week staying at the Mountain View RV Park in Arco to our three week stay in Salmon we accumulated so many great experiences and memories that it is hard to categorize them and add to the journal. While in...
