Aug 8, 2010 - Poolside With a Nephew and Niece

We awoke on Sunday morning to a storm with thunder and lighting. It didn't last too long and we headed south to Caledonia, Michigan just outside of Grand Rapids. We're nicely parked near the barn in the back of Bob and Julie Spoolstra's home. They are our nephew and niece and returned about a year ago from six years as missionaries in Ecuador. We hadn't seen them since 2003. That meant a lot of enjoyable moments talking about what has happened in our lives, learning about their projects on their house and how our the economy is affecting...

Drove down to Manistee and overnighted at the Liver River Casino, they had a nice RV park. Then we visit Historic old town and walk along the river boardwalk. There are alot of expense boats in the river along the walk and at the end it opens up into Lake Michigan. The next day we drove down to Ludington Dock were the ferry leaves from. Overnight there and catching the S.S. Badger in the morning. Our motorhome and car were loaded underneath. It was a 4 hour trip across Lake Michigan to Wisconsin. The water was like glass and made a nice...

Aug 11, 2007 - Ludington Wedneday August 8

We got to Ludington and went to the state park so we could visit the Big Sabal Point Lighthouse, believe it or not; we were turned away, no place to park the MH. They said the Lighthouse was about a two mile walk from the park, but we had to park in another area that was "ONLY" a mile from the park, uhh that would be 3 miles from the lighthouse, so guess what, you won't be seeing a picture on my updates of the Big Sabal Point Lighthouse. So, we parked just outside the park and climbed up on top of the MH and I took pictures of Lake Michigan...

Jul 11, 2006 - Mears, Michigan

As much as we hated too, we headed souuth from Mackinaw City to Mears, MI. We will miss the cool weather of Northern Michigan. Mears is located about half way down the state on the shores of Lake Michigan. The biggest claim to fame in the area is the Silver Lake Dunes State Park. The dunes are huge and they do some serious four wheel driving in this part of the country. The weather was great until our last night. I was cooking a pork roast on the grill when the storm came. They were predicting 70 mph winds with quarter sized hail. Luckily,...

Jun 15, 2005 - ARLENE Who??

43 46.2 N 86 26.0 W Wind N 15 - 25 Weather: Barometer falling, rain and winds moving to north The day did not really open up for us yesterday but we decided to take the 12-mile sprint from Pentwater to Ludington in a projected 20-25 knots of wind. As soon as we cleared the Pentwater jetties we knew the forecast had been woefully conservative in wind prediction as we started to see 35 knots and 4 - 6 foot waves quartering us from port. Under full main and less than 100% ( about 1/3rd of full head sail) we enjoyed a bouncy but quick ride to...
