Mar 30, 2017 - Chicago to Detroit

Time for a new car! After putting 160,000 very interesting miles on my 2008 Saturn Vue, everything seems to be going at the same time. Last summer I invested $2000 in the car because I love driving it. This trip, however, has convinced me that it's time to look for something else. Up until now it was the little things - the visor won't stay up, the washer jet doesn't work on the back window, the seat fabric is wearing out - etc. Now I seem to feel a difference in the transmission, the washer on the windshield just stopped working and today...

Sep 21, 2016 - Heading Southwest Tomorrow

This summer was full of surprises. I got to do some fun things with the kids which is a special kind of joy. I also got to spend time with Colin in Chicago, friends in Milford, Milwaukee, and East Tawas. Stayed with Miho, Shigeki and Ryuji for a couple of weeks and it was interesting to watch them prep for his first year at the University of Michigan. I had tea at a Russian monastery, went to the Motown museum ( 7th time !) and discovered lots of new Detroit restaurants and they were really good! Towards the end of the summer, issues came...

May 4, 2016 - At Spencer's

After two very chilly and rainy weeks in Chicago , I drove to Detroit on Monday. Took a day to unload the car and unpack the many suitcases and bags I had with me. Every year I swear that I will not bring so much stuff but that never seems to happen. A few interesting things are planned before I get on the road again in August . I will post on occasion - until then - I plan on enjoying my time with family.

Apr 17, 2015 - Arrived Safely in Detroit

I left Chicago at 9am ( 10 Detroit time) and had a wonderful drive . No traffic - no problems. After unloading my car, I met friends at the Firebird. Owen was there and it was so good to see him again. Tomorrow he and I are going to a Tigers baseball game and we will have a chance to catch up. I'll be ducking in and out of Detroit all summer. Looking forward to spending time with family and friends.

Dec 21, 2014 - No More Red Eyes

I have never been so cold on a plane in my life. It was a brand new 757 - clean, comfortable, but freezing. There were plenty of blankets on this half full flight and each passenger had at least two wrapped around legs and neck. The crew never seemed to be able to warm the thing up . I missed the sunshine coming through the window ( adding some heat?). Anyway, that is definitely my last red eye. We caught a good tailwind and arrived 20 minutes early. Got to Spencer's as he was waking up and , after a half hour of chatting, we went to...

Nov 7, 2014 - In Detroit

Smooth flight and arrived on time. Went straight to Spencer's and after getting a big hug and bringing in luggage, I went for the grocer. Need to do more shopping today but the bulk is done. Had trouble accessing the internet last night so this is a late entry.

Aug 6, 2014 - Birthday Dinner At The DAC

Colin came in from Chicago for two days. He arrived at three this morning and will be here until early Friday. Spencer made arrangements for all of us to go to the Detroit Athletic Club for dinner this evening to celebrate my birthday. I looked around the table at my three sons and can't tell you how hard it was for me not to burst into tears. I am so proud of my boys - such gentlemen, so caring and loving. I sometimes feel like I carry the world on my shoulders alone and then I realize that my sons have my back. What a comforting feeling....

Jun 11, 2014 - Arrived in Detroit

Left Chicago much later than I had planned. After driving Colin to work, I hopped on 94E and didn't stop until I reached Indiana. Gas is so much cheaper there. Grabbed a bite to eat and then continued my drive. I encountered two huge rain storms that slowed me down and then construction on the highway forced everyone to detour to 275N. I would be taking that road anyway but normally not EVERYONE gets off there. From that point until the Southfield exit on 696E it was a crawl. Spencer greeted me at at the door ( 7 pm with time change) and...

Dec 17, 2013 - Arrived Safely

I was up and ready to go by 3:30 a.m. The van came at 4:15 , we went on to pick up three other passengers, and then off to Sky Harbor Airport. Miraculously, I was "pre-screened" by the computer so I sailed through security - shoes on, jacket on, and computer in bag. Wow - does that speed things up. I had the aisle seat in a row occupied by a young couple with a 19 month old named Lyric. She was a cutie pie , curious and in constant motion. She shared her toys with me but best of all she shared her smiles. Eventually she fell asleep and...

Aug 29, 2013 - Dinner With Norma At Firebird

I cannot believe how time is flying by. I was so busy this morning taking care of little details ( they always take the longest) in preparation for Wednesday's departure. Before I knew it, it was time to walk the dog and then pick up Norma for an early dinner at Firebird. I had my camera but the place was so busy ( that's a good thing) that it was impossible to take a picture with Owen and Norma. Afterward we went down the street to Astoria bakery for a mini pastry and small coffee. What a delightful evening.

Jul 26, 2013 - Dinner With The Womacks

Spencer is away this weekend. This will be a good opportunity for me to get some things done around the house . This evening I went to dinner with Bill ( Tom's very best friend) and his wife Diane. Bill is retiring next week . We laughed about our experiences filing for Social Security and picking a supplemental health insurance. I remember Tom and I figuring out a budget thinking we would be so restricted by not having a paycheck and somehow we always had the money to do the things we wanted to do. Bill told me about this year's fly tying...

Jul 20, 2013 - Catching Up

Had a much needed restful sleep last night. Ran errands today, stopped at Owen's apartment, did laundry and then had dinner at Zumba with Spencer. Almost fell asleep while watching the Tiger game tonight. It is much cooler this evening. Spencer was able to shut the air, open the windows, and let the breeze blow through the house. What a nice change.
