Aug 9, 2012 - Moving Day

From Kamp Across From The Dunes RV Park & Campground – Sawyer, MI Well as you can see from the header for this post we did not keep with our itinerary and stop in Utica, Illinois! When we reached our stop for the day, it was only 1:30 p.m. and with more than 230 miles to go tomorrow we decided to keep heading toward Michigan (our destination for Friday) and see what RV Parks we spotted along the way to spend just one night. This would hopefully break the two days of travel in closer overall mileage. Well, first it was just get to the other...

Home Sweet RV - 2012

Oct 9, 2011 - A Quiet Sunday

We started the day going to church at Lakeside. The Bishop was there and the service was quite nice. After church we went back to New Buffalo to the Stray Dog Bar and Grill. They have rooftop seating with umbrellas so we sat up there over looking the marina and Lake Michigan in the distance. Bill had a "Stray Dog" which was a hot dog stuffed with cheese, fried then covered with caramelized onion. It was yummy. Sue had a "Chicago Dog" which is a hot dog with tomato, cucumber, pickle, relish, peppers and mustard. It was also yummy. Bill had a...

Fall Trip 2011

Oct 8, 2011 - Harvest Festival in New Buffalo

This morning while Bill rested his ankle, Sue took a hike on the Nature Trail through Warren Dunes. There was a pretty little creek along the trail then the trail led around the base of the dunes and on out and up to where you could see Lake Michigan from the top of one of the dunes. The walk was difficult because much of it was in soft sand and uphill but it was neat to see the lake from the top. When Sue returned we drove south to the little town of New Buffalo stopping along the way at a farmer's market. We got some yummy fresh grown...

Fall Trip 2011

Oct 7, 2011 - Visiting the Dunes

This morning we got up, packed and checked out then spent some time in the rockers on the porch with a cup of coffee. We left the Inn around 10:30am and drove down to New Buffalo to get a wrap for Bill's ankle. We drove back to our rig at Warren Dunes and let Bill rest his ankle. Later, we drove to the beach at the dunes and took some pictures. The dunes are quite large and when we got there some boys were headed down with what looked like snowboards. We guess they use them on the dunes. What fun!! This is certainly a pretty area and many...

Fall Trip 2011

Oct 6, 2011 - In Michigan at Last

Beginning Mileage 6198 Ending Mileage 6272 Warren Dunes State Park Sawyer,MI 269-426-4013 Not Rated $25/nt plus $8/nt auto pass We slept in then took our walk on the hiking trail at Oak Lake. It was a great walk and nice walking in the woods for a change. We got a little later start than we intended because we were attempting to install tire pressure gauges on the fifth wheel tires. Had to delay that to another day as noon was approaching. We fueled up and had a delicious lunch at a brand new Arby's then hit the road. We only had a 74 mile...

Fall Trip 2011

Jul 2, 2009 - sand as far as the eye can see...well, sort of

After Niagara Falls I started to move around the Great Lakes. After a splendid night in my car at a rest area I made it Lake Michigan, but not without a quick stop at Notra Dame in Indiana. Hendrix and I played on the quad there until the sun went down! When we got to Warren Dunes State Park I was ready to do nothing but relax and so, that's what we did. Laid out on the sand dunes and caught some rays before going back to camp and having a somewhat peaceful evening...Michigan has a bad mosquito problem.
