We left Ionia mid morning on Tuesday, August 27 and met up with Gary and Vicki on the highway toward East Tawas. We called them when we got to the flashing stoplights in town and they left their lake house, towing their travel trailer. We stopped at a nice rest area on Hwy. 127 for lunch and to walk the dogs. We arrived at Tawas State Park a little after 3pm. We had to take on water as they have no water hookups in Michigan state parks. Aug 2, 2009 - Lake Huron & Leaving Michigan

We left the UP (Upper Peninsula) via the only route…crossing the Mackinaw bridge, which was built in 1957, and still charges tolls (do they ever!), and is apparently in a continuous state of being maintained or repaired. Mackinaw is a small town on the mainland side. We stopped there at an RV wash (which you don’t find too often) to wash some of the grime off. It was by a little restaurant that sold the ever popular “Pasties”, so I bought three to fix for our dinner. They sold four varieties, and I wish I had tried others, but I got all...
