Oct 21, 2012 - The Oregon Trail (Ground Zero)
I was too tired last night to complete the saga. If you noticed in yesterday's photo, I included a photo of farmland taken near Auburn Nebraska, and a photo of the main street of Auburn Nebraska which was the town just north of Falls City where we stopped for the night. Auburn Nebraska is the ground zero, jumping off place for the covered wagons leaving Missouri for the promised land of the Willamette Valley, Oregon Territory. Please look at the map I have photographed (above). For a larger version, see www.heritagehighway136.comJump to full entry
Oct 20, 2012 - How Flat is Flat?
Today was a series of contrasts and unexpected discoveries. Started out at 6AM in the dark. It was surprisingly mild in Laramie, at 7100 feet elevation. And from there we went up to 8600 feet before starting to descend to Cheyenne. As we came down the eastern flank of the mountain I looked behind us and could not see anything at all looming upwards. Even though we had been "on top of the world", we were not visibly on a mountain, everything around us had been mounded as opposed to a jagged peak. It felt very odd. For those Canadians who are...Jump to full entry
Aug 10, 2006 - Home
Well, I'm now back down at K-State finishing up my last semester in electrical engineering. I'll soon be interviewing for jobs and I have no idea where I will be come January! Hopefully in the Midwest somewhere, maybe Kansas, Iowa, Colorado, or Texas. I do know that I would like to get a job that includes plenty of travel time! It definitely keeps me from getting bored! Just for the fun of it, I decided to make a list of most of the places I have visited so far in Europe and rank them from my most favorite to least favorite. Don't take them...Jump to full entry
Aug 12, 2005 - Home!
After traveling through Europe, I just hung out in Prague not doing much of anything until my flight back on the 12th. In all, I was in Europe for about 6 months and I loved almost every minute of it. And I'll just stop with the essay of how I liked it and will never forget the whole experience. It was nice to get back home and see all of my family and friends, but I would like to get back to Europe when I get the chance, preferably soon!Jump to full entry
Feb 16, 2005 - Packed and waiting.....
Well, it's about 5 hours until my flight leaves, and I'm starting to get really anxious! I can't believe I'll be in another hemisphere tomorrow (lost and carrying 100 lbs. of luggage)! I just wanted to give a little background info on the Czech Republic before I took off. It might be several days until I can get internet hooked up in my dorm room and get another update out. The country is surrounded by Poland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, & Slovakia and is located pretty close to the center of Europe. It consists of the two ancient lands of...Jump to full entry
