Some fascinating critters once roamed where the corn now grows - Tuesday, August 18 A hundred miles north west of Clarkson lies a fossil bed of unusual character. We drove there today on our way to Valentine. The drive was fine and relaxing, with little traffic even on the main highways and almost none on the back roads. The country changed continually from rolling farmland to rolling grassland, and back again - sometimes greener where we hit a wetter microclimate, and sometimes browner and less lush where the rain is less.
