Jun 15, 2017 - Omaha NE – Lake Cunningham Campground

Back in Omaha, Roger spent time getting the boat ready for our fishing trips in North and South Dakota. We also got to go to my favorite Mexican restaurant, Fernando’s, for dinner one night. We were joined by brother, Jack, and his wife, Theresa, and nephew, John, and his wife, Carol. It was good to see them all again and the food was great, as usual. If you’re ever in Omaha and get a chance to go to Fernando’s, I recommend the seafood enchilada dinner. It is so yummy…………………….I wish I could have another one right now! Our first few days in...

May 9, 2017 - Night at the Drive-In

We've passed through six states since yesterday: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska. Rolling hills, large farms, farmhouses, barns and silos. Can you guess which photo goes with which state? Last evening we pulled into the York Kampground which advertises 139 full hookup spaces. Immediately I thought it looked like a drive-in without the screen, with its rows of electric stands and even a cement block wash house which could have been the snack bar 50 years ago. Working at the Yucca Tree Drive-in when I was 14 was my...

Sep 6, 2016 - Looking for museums and the bluff

After we got up and had breakfast we discussed what we were going to do today. Because of the pain pill last night I was not hurting and able to drive. We had a list of five things to see, but had to cross out one of them because they were only open Thursday - Sunday and today was Tuesday. First stop I wanted to do was to see the offices Berkshire-Hathaway which I hold some stock and bonds in. Bummer. You can only go up to the offices if you have an appointment and I do not have one. Oh well. Next was the Omaha Union Station, which looked...

Sep 5, 2016 - Omaha ER

Labor Day. Got up late and had breakfast. Back still hurting and not getting better. Not much is open today since it is a holiday. At about 1 pm we decided to take a little ride over to the emergency room to see if I can get my back checked out. Each time I move I get a real bad stabbing pain in my mid back, I had been hoping that it would start to get a little better but it was not. We had to wait for only about an hour before being taken to a room. The doctor came in and asked a bunch of questions and looked at my back, then said that she...

Sep 4, 2016 - Omaha NE

We are traveling today, going to Omaha, driving through Missouri and Iowa and then crossing the Missouri river into Omaha. Good drive, but we had rain at times, and then sunshine. Arrived at Offutt Air Force Base FamCamp which has a large lake and lots of activities to do, besides being a camp it is also a recreation area for all base personnel. It was raining when we got to our site so we had to wait for about 20 minutes till it stopped, and then we were able to get set up. We then drove into downtown Omaha to check it out. The city is a...

Oct 11, 2015 - Road to Omaha

October 2015 On the road again, we wound our way south through the Nebraska panhandle and turned east on I-80. We stayed the night at a Walmart in North Platte, NE and got an early start the next morning. We arrived mid-afternoon at Bluff’s Run Casino in Council Bluffs, IA. Not to gamble, but to park the RV during our stay in the Omaha area. It’s not fancy, but well located for what we wanted to do and the people we wanted to see. In a whirlwind 11 days we managed to see friends, family, vet, dentist and doctor. We are full time RV’ers, but...

Aug 18, 2015 - David's Truck Gets a New Look

We started our day getting a new truck cap for David's truck. David found a cap he liked on the internet and the closest place to the East Coast was St Louis. It just so happens the place is 20 minutes from a campground that we reserved months ago. God is pretty amazing. David ordered it and we got it this morning. We spent the majority of today on the road, as Ryan says, "in the middle of nowhere. We are 6 hours from the Badlands. I am pretty excited. America does still have a LOT of farmlands!!

Aug 16, 2015 - Omaha

August 16 p.m. -17 We planned to park at Cracker Barrel in Omaha, NE (like WalMart, another business that allows Rvers to stay overnight) but there was no flat area in their parking lot, so we opted instead to stay at the truck parking lot behind the restaurant. All seemed well until the morning, when we discovered (A) we were parked in very thick mud (rained overnight) and (B) some “idiot” had parked their car directly in front of of us...why would someone do that when there was plenty of parking elsewhere? John managed to squeeze through...

Jun 3, 2015 - Omaha!

Tuesday May 26 It is time to move on. Today we drove north along the Mo, through vast crop fields to the KOA Campground just west of Omaha. The corn fields looked more like rice paddies. The area we passed through is called the glacial hills. It is not at all like the terrain you see along I-80. Rolling hills, green grasslands and trees! Arriving early, we acquainted ourselves with the area and did a bit of shopping including a stop at Cabelas. We had dinner at a place in Gretna called We’ll Smoke U BBQ. It was a homey little place and the...

Apr 29, 2015 - Nebraska

NEBRASKA North Platte We were working our way East to see family in Indiana, but on the way had some states to visit. We do not push ourselves when we are in travel mode (Spring and Fall), and unlike many RVers, we plan ahead and make RV Park reservations at our destination so we know there will be no drama in finding a place to stay. Our normal travel distance is between 250 - 350 miles per day, although we have gone as far as 450. I say all this to explain why we stopped in North Platte, Nebraska. It was about half way between our two...

Apr 15, 2015 - Visiting the Cornhusker State

We had a long day of driving because we decided to change our plans. When we left El Centro, there were 4 states not filled in on our map which meant we had not stayed there in our motorhome. We have eliminated Alaska & Hawaii from our list – Alaska because we just do not want to drive that far, and Hawaii for obvious reasons. The 4 states we were lacking were Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Are you surprised? We had decided to take the southern route due to the time of year, filling in Oklahoma & Arkansas. We were sitting at the...

Mar 12, 2015 - Freightliner Service

I made an appointment with Freightliner in Omaha to do a service check. I arrived the night before and slept in the coach. The following morning they did a full service on the chassis and found a recall hadn't been completed. They did not have the parts so I scheduled the recall to be done in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the following week.
