Apr 1, 2017 - A camping day around the fire

We woke up this morning to fog. There had been some storms farther south of us but we just had cooler temps. We waited a little later and then we started getting rounded up. This is a nice state park and it looks like it would be popular in the Summer and in the fall maybe just travelers or bird watchers. The sites are on $15 a night for electric only. There is fresh water in the park but not at the sites. Also there is a $8 nonresident fee. Our site was $23 which is not bad for a easy off the interstate and a quite park. We got on the...

Jul 8, 2014 - Buzzing to Sleep

We have driven until the sun set so we have now stopped for the night in a rest area just outside of Thedford, Nebraska. The mosquitos are buzzing at our screens in droves! Luckily they can't get inside and bite us, but the sound is a little disconcerting... I guess I should just look at it as they want to "buzz us to sleep". Jun 6, 2009 - Then came the trains

Not sure why we came this way, but saw some different, pretty parts of NE. Not many campsites, and most are connected to little motels, as this one was. Full hookup, but to say there were no ammenities would be to make believe they were part of the camping experience here. Not so in this part of the country. Unless you count the train experience as an ammenity. They came by, blowing through the whole town (about a half mile long, with two gas stations and two small motels...though there might be a house or two on a side road)on an...
