Sep 11, 2011 - Yutan, Nebraska

Today we took a train ride on the Fremont & Elkhorn Valley Railroad. The ride starts in Fremont and only goes 17 miles. To do the 34 miles round trip it took 3 hours. Talk about a slow train. We were on the excursion train and is cost $12 each. We hooked up a bunch of cars that was the dinner train, at $50 per person. On the train Susan fed me pealed grapes. The scenery wasn't anything to write home about and we had no air conditioning. It got a little to hot for us near the end of the ride. We only had 8 passengers on the excursion train,...

Sep 24, 2010 - Yutan, Nebraska

OK, one more post with no pictures. Today we left late and got to Yutan late. We stopped at Flying J to get fuel. It took an hour as they were unorganized. We didn't even stop to make lunch, stopped at Subway and ate in the car. We stayed in Yutan only because it had a Coast to Cost park and it only costs us $10. We decided to drive two days worth tomorrow just to get to Chanute on Saturday instead of Sunday. It is about 300 miles again so Susan may spend some time laying down in the back seat. Tonight we went to the parks ice cream social...

With snow packing the roads all winter, there is a lot of summer road work to be done, just as there is in Alaska. Some of the roads here, and remoteness of towns and homes, often remind us of Alaska. I'm not as perpetually awestruck by the scenery and wildlife experiences as I was in Alaska, but at times it comes close. We went from flat, endless farming country in...

Jun 22, 2007 - Woods Landing RV Resort, Yutan NE, Elev 1126 ft

Arrived in Yutan Nebraska early this afternoon. Yutan is a small town just west of Omaha NE. We had to drive on a couple miles of dirt county roads to get here. Eveything is quite dirty. It will just have to stay that way until we leave since we have to travel on those roads again. We had an adventerous time last night at Spirit Lake IA. The thunder storms moved in about 12:30am and lasted until 4:30am. Needles to say, neither one of us had much sleep last night. Spectacular show, but not good for sleeping! So, here we are again in yet...
