Headed out I-40 to Route 66 RV Park Resort about 8 miles west of Albuquerque, NM. This is an RV Park at the Acoma Nation Casino. Relatively new park that we stayed at several years ago. Very nice and spacious park with beautiful sunrises. We stayed here for three nights and was our first experience with limited grocery items.

Winter 2020

Jan 24, 2020 - January 24, 2020 – Sun City, Arizona to Albuquerque, New Mexico

January 24, 2020 – Sun City, Arizona to Albuquerque, New Mexico This morning Sue and I went out for breakfast. When we were both in Emporia, our ritual was that every Sunday morning we would have breakfast together at the Valley Inn. She said that she had only been out to breakfast once in the last 5 years so it was a treat for her and for me to have breakfast together. After breakfast, we went to the hospital to see Alice. I visited with her for a while and witnessed her signature on her living will and some other legal documents. Then,...

Jan 15, 2020 - What’s So Special About Albuquerque Anyway?

If you’re headed to Albuquerque anytime soon, you may be wondering what there is to do in the nation’s 32nd most populous city and the largest city in the state of New Mexico. Other than being the setting of the popular TV show, “Breaking Bad”, what does this place have to offer to visitors and residences? Albuquerque was founded in 1706, well before the United States became an independent nation. It has a rich history and over half a million people dwell within its limits. Here are some things to know about life in...

Dec 5, 2019 - Kirtland Air Force Base Oct 13- Dec 5

NOTE: photos will be captioned shortly: We returned to Albuquerque for some routine medical checkups which were all scheduled in advance to end just before Halloween. Things did not go as planned and several delays occurred which kept us in town until December 5. Needless to say weather became an issue and we had to outfit the motorhome with additional cold weather gear like an anti-freeze water hose. We also overstayed our allotted time in our camp spot in the Air Force Base. We were allowed to stay on base if we changed to a different...

The drive to Albuquerque was straight forward on a very straight route 285 and then following I-25 from Santa Fe into Albuquerque. We detoured slightly west on I-40 to fuel up at a familiar Flying J before heading back east to the Albuquerque KOA. Once again, the passenger slide failed to extend. We caught some dinner at Powdrell BBQ and settled in for the night. We were up early the next morning to get the Phaeton to nearby Myers RV where we visited with the RV Service Manager, Brian. We now had two necessary repairs plus two desirable...

Today we got up early, seen the Balloon ascention and went to Sandia mountain for a sky tram ride. The ride took us to an elevation of 10,300 ft, it was 30 degrees colder up there. After the ride up the mountain, we drove to the Pueblo cultural museum. We had lunch at the museum and went back to the RV to tend to our dogs. Later we went to El Pinto for dinner.

Today we awoke to hot air Balloons overhead. We went for an open air trolly tour of Albuquerque. After the trolly ride we went to lunch at Garduno’s in the hotel Albuquerque. After that we went to Old Town to meet Jim & Sue Cook who went to the Balloon fiesta with another tour company. While we were gone they emptied the tanks and refilled the fresh water. Living on a generator is doable with a smart generator system. After that we went to the RV for burgers before the group meeting to discuss tomorrow’s adventure. Another full day.

Today we saw the Balloon launch, but not all of them went up due to weather. We traveled about 3/4 mile down to the launch site and shopped for a bit. Then we walked, up hill, back - the walk down was easier than the walk back up. We had a Yankee meeting and then went back down to the Balloon launch site, by car. We witnessed the night glow and fireworks up close. While we were sitting thru the glow, we talked to a woman who skydived and went to work for the circus as a snake charmer, she was in her late 70’s.

Today we traveled from Santa Fe to Albuquerque a distance of about 45 miles. Bea traveled with Helen and Lucy and I the coach and tow. There was a little rain, but not bad. When we arrived at the spot in Albuquerque, it was freshly graded and graveled. No complaints or stickers (sand spurs) to be found.

Hot dog, jumping frog Day 18 Albuquerque is a large city, the largest in New Mexico. Nevertheless, unlike New York and Chicago it is spread over a large area. Although there are some skyscrapers these do not dominate the skyline. This honour is given to the Sandia Mountains, which look pink at sunset. This morning we are happy to be having a more leisurely day to explore the city. After breakfast (Mark tries green chilli sauce and immediately wishes he hadn't!!) we set off to the Rail Yards Sunday market. We believe we know where we are...

9/12/19 - Non-eventful drive today from Holbrook, AZ. We are here for two nights. Originally 3, but it was too far from Sedona, so I broke the drive into two days. The last time in 2003 we were in the area, we rode the bikes with Bryan and Diane from Santa Fe to the top of Sandia Mountain which overlooks Albuquerque. 9/13/19 - Went to Walgreens to renew prescriptions and Walmart for groceries. Took a couple of pics of the sunset and Sandia Mountain from the RV Site. Tomorrow we head for Amarillo, TX and the Big Texan Restaurant. Another 2...
