Oct 13, 2020 - Last visit with family
Before I hit the road again, I spent one last long weekend with my family in NY and NJ. On Saturday, Dot, David, and I went up to Hunter looking for a place to walk that wasn't too crowded. The road leading to North-South Lake was super crowded with cars parked along the road for at least a mile on either side of the road for a trailhead, so we gave up that idea. A couple of local home owners offered parking on their property for $20 a day! One had at least 25 cars parked there! Wow! We ended up at Hunter Mountain Ski Resort and walked the...

Sep 9, 2020 - Biking a rail trail
I have been looking for a bike trail all summer. I had been riding the 2 mile trail along 209 on the way to Dot's on Sundays but I wanted something closer and longer. I found the Heritage Trail that goes from Monroe to Goshen for at least 10 miles, so that was my destination today. I started in Monroe at Airport or Crane Park and went the wrong direction, but it was a satisfying ride for 2 miles to the end parking lot! I passed by a couple of marshes where I saw a Great Blue Heron. When I stopped to get a picture, I discovered there were a...

Aug 14, 2020 - Niagara Falls
On Friday we went to Niagara Falls. We had driven up from Cleveland, Ohio late in the evening and stopped at a Walmart in Fredonia, New York, which is about an hour and a half from Niagara Falls. At first we weren't sure if we were going to see them and instead head west first, and see them later. Since they were so close to Cleveland though, we decided we had to go see them before leaving the East. - It was a toasty day but not terrible. Parking was $10. We were pretty worried about leaving the animals, so we hooked up our remote...

Aug 10, 2020 - another ride - shorter
Monday proved to be another hot day, so Mom and I took another ride to find a water fall talked about in Hudson Valley magazine. I knew there was a town called Stuyvesant Falls, but I didn't know there were actual water falls worth seeing there! We enjoyed a lunch on a bench and looking at the falls and the people who went down to the water on the other side. I had to check out how they got there and we were happy with where we had been instead of that park. I liked the bridge, though!

Aug 9, 2020 - long ride in the mountains
Dot took us all (Jed, Mom, and me) on a ride up the mountain and into the Catskills to a park they had found with a boat launch, called Devasago Park. The ride up 23A was harrowing because of all the traffic and pedestrians trying to walk to Kaaterskill Creek from afar. The police were everywhere enforcing the new no parking laws of the area, but that just made for people in the road instead of cars parked half in the road! I wonder what the solution is! The park is small and nice and seems to be unknown by the city folk. We walked a small...

Aug 5, 2020 - High waters
After a big rainstorm, the river rises – duh! The Upper Delaware was over 9 feet at the gauge we go by and it is usually around 3 feet at this time of year. Only rafts can go out when the water is over 6 feet and life jacket wear by everyone is mandatory. I took a few pictures of Ten Mile River, the access to the Delaware from that point, the Roebling Bridge, and the little brook that runs next to our campground.

Aug 3, 2020 - Kayaking near Kingston
Dot and I took our kayaks to Sleightsburgh Park in Port Ewen for a little paddle on the mouth of Rondout Creek. We saw an old tourist boat that might be in the process of being restored, a tow boat, a boat that tows others in a different way, and the Kingston Maritime Museum. We didn’t go out to the Hudson, but saw it!

Jul 29, 2020 - North country of Upper Delaware
Paddy & Brett put out just south of the confluence of the east and west branches of the Delaware river, in Hancock, NY. After dropping them off, I discovered places in Hancock I had not seen before and then went to northern accesses to clean them and check brochures.

Jul 13, 2020 - picnic in Hunter
On this warm Monday, I suggested that we pack a picnic lunch and go up into the mountains to find a cool place. Bring a book and chair in case we want to stay awhile. Mom asked that we go by Lookout Point and after contemplating a bit, I remembered that was where Dolores painted jungle animals for a bar that was in that spot. Now it is a restaurant and Inn. It used to be owned by a lesbian couple but I don’t know if that’s still true. We did stop just before there but couldn’t see very much – cloudy at that time. We couldn’t stop at Lookout...

Jul 10, 2020 - a stop at Long Eddy
Paddy always likes to go North on his roves. Today he had me take him to Long Eddy that used to be a bustling place (think 1800s). The road to the river abruptly ends with no place to turn around! I saw a couple of signs – one that pointed “Down the Lane” which literally was a country lane! The other one informed us that this used to be the road to a ferry to PA. It explained how they directed the ferry depending on whether the load was going north or south on the river – the current was a factor.

Jul 10, 2020 - Glenville NY, Arrowhead Marina & RV Campground
We left the Casino parking lot at 730 a.m. heading north to Arrowhead Marina & RV campground just outside Schenectady NY. It was very cloudy and a few rain drops did fall as we headed out. The first 30 miles Of our route, were smaller state roads, some a bit hilly, windy and twisty. After that it was I-84 and I87, with a bit of I90 to get over to the campground. As we travelled north, the clouds lifted a bit. We easily made it to by 1 pm. With the forecast showing heavy rain overnight and also for Saturday, we asked, and were able to extend...

Jun 23, 2020 - Final destination is at Kittatinny
I drove to my temporary spot (2 weeks) in the Kittatinny campground in Barryville and had to have someone help me get into the only spot they would let me have until July 7. They rented out my normal spot because they wouldn’t hold it for me. They wanted payment up front but the Federal Government pays upon completion of service. I have been there for 6 other years, but the manager didn’t budge. I am not her favorite person and she doesn’t talk directly to me. The owner allowed me in the campground sites (including the Milford site – a...
