Jul 11, 2018 - Empire State Building and Times Square

The tour today will be in New York City. We started out being dropped off in front of the Empire State building. Had to go through metal detectors again to go to the observation floors. Started out on the 80th floor. This floor housed the gift shop and museum. Also it has inside only observation area To be outside you have to take another elevator to the 86th floor....and we did. It was somewhat crowded but not bad. Able to take a number of photos without people in front of you. Jenny did great and didn't really get freaked out by the...

Jul 9, 2018 - First Day in New York City

What a trip to New York City during rush hour. Took us about 2 1/2 hour for the 70+ mile drive. First, we went to see the Statue of Liberty. Left from Battery Park on a ferry that can hold 800 people. Probably we had a full load. You can walk around the Statue and visit a store. Not much else is here. Back on the ferry, we headed over to Ellis Island. Saw the buildings that our ancestors may have passed through. After we got back to Battery Park, we had to find the bus. Not a lot of places to store a bus between drop offs. Next we stopped...

From a documentary film, we learned that a ticket for the steamship passage from England/Europe to America back in the early 1900s was $25.00. It...

Jun 16, 2010 - Island of Hope/Island of Tears...Ellis Island, NY

Today, we started out at 10:30 to travel to Liberty Park, New Jersey to catch a ferry to Ellis Island and Liberty Island. This is only a 1.5 hour drive. We had to purchase our tickets to ride the ferry and visit the Ellis Island and the statue museum at least 10 days ahead if we wanted to visit inside the Statue museum and pedestal. The cost of the ferry ride is $10 for seniors. The weather is overcast skies but very nice. Driving thru Jersey City is not my favorite! Your trip is at the mercy of the GPS. They have intersections that are a...
