May 22, 2018 - Dead cars, Dead animals and Deadly roads
May 21 Well, we had some gray skies but no rain yesterday. Good traveling for today. We have a few observations. The roads east of the Mississippi River seem to be worse than west of the River. Don’t know why?? There must be 100 million (or more) armadillos and possum in this country. If the number of dead ones along the roads are any indication. And, we have never seen as many disabled vehicles along the roads as we have this return trip. There were a BUNCH just in Texas. Of course, it is a long way across the Lone Star State! But we saw...Jump to full entry
Jul 15, 2015 - Leg #16
/// Susquehanna Trails Campground Oneonta, NY Wednesday – July 15, 2015 First thing this morning, after completing some travel preparations, I had to make one last trip back to Fair Haven, VT to conclude some banking business and fill up with diesel fuel. I got to say farewell to my friend Sharon Kendall. It was surprising how many familiar faces I recognized while at the fuel station. Returning to the campground by 9:30 a.m., I backed up the Ford F-350 into position and hooked up the rig and we were on the road by 10:00 a.m. The first leg...Jump to full entry
Jun 25, 2015 - Leg #14 - Oneonta, NY
/// Susquehanna Trails RV Campground Oneonta, NY Wednesday – June 24, 2015 A Travel Day: We departed Carlisle, PA by 7:00 A.M. hoping to beat some of the hectic traffic around Harrisburg. It was still a white-knuckle experience but we did finally manage to escape. Our route today would take us north on I-81 all the way to Binghamton, NY where we next took I-88 north to Oneonta. We made our first rest stop after two hours of travel and then took a lunch break at the NYS Welcome Center. The road conditions today were not good. Although...Jump to full entry
May 3, 2015 - Baseball and Beverages
We only drove about 100 miles to our next stop to an RV park in Oneonta, NY where we planned to stay for a couple of days to see some sights around Cooperstown – especially the Baseball Hall of Fame. The drive over was very pretty but also very difficult. We could have taken the Interstate but instead took Route 20 which goes through the villages on the way and is much more scenic. Those of you out west will think I’m crazy when I tell you that the climbs up and down the hills in this region were some of the steepest we have encountered. I...Jump to full entry
Sep 15, 2012 - Going over the Catskill Mtns.
Today was a bright beautiful day with big white fluffy clouds. We had rain last night but neither of us know how long it rained. Long enough for our 4 x 6 piece of artificial grass (we put under our step) to get sopping wet. We left Plattekill, NY and headed up to the Catskill Mountains. We stayed on the tollroad most of the way. We have seen enough poor little country roads. Jumped on the 28 going over the Catskills and began to see many more country roads. There were lots of OLD farms and villages/towns. The highest point in the Catskills...Jump to full entry
Sep 1, 2012 - If you like barns ...
From Oneonta, New York … Saturday, September 1, 2012 We enjoyed another beautiful day here in upstate New York. The highs were in the low 80s which made it perfect for touring around the countryside. After sleeping in a bit late, we went out for breakfast. The Neptune Diner here in Oneonta fed us very well. Their food was very tasty and perfectly cooked. We spent most of our day exploring some scenic routes in the area. My photos will tell the story of what we found along the way … neat tiny towns and pretty farms. It is just a beautiful...Jump to full entry
Aug 31, 2012 - All things Baseball in Cooperstown
From Oneonta, New York … Friday, August 31, 2012 I think our days will be so busy on this trip that I will have to keep my journal entries fairly brief. My main focus is always to update with as many pictures as I can which I’m sure I can do! Yesterday morning we left Pennsylvania after breakfast. We didn’t leave the hotel as early as we had hoped, but it worked out fine. We were a little worried about the traffic today as it is the start of the Labor Day weekend. But actually, the section of I-81 we traveled on today was not nearly as...Jump to full entry
Aug 29, 2012 - Take Me Out to the Ballgame!
Oneonta, NY, where the rv park is located, is only 28 miles from Cooperstown, home of National Hall of Fame and Museum. We decided to stay today and made the trek to Cooperstown. Cooperstown is a small town, population 2800; devoted to the sport of baseball; contains many large, two-storyVictorian homes built on the shores of Oneta Lake. The Hall of Fame is three stories, located in downtown. The displays are well organized with LOTS of memorabilia. All of the items on display has been donated; nothing has been purchased. Parking is...Jump to full entry
Aug 28, 2012 - On The Road ***Susquehanna Trail Campground, Oneonta NY
It rained all through the night, and was still raining when we were ready to depart. We had decided to go on the Auto Tour Road to the top of Mt. Washington but the rain, fog, and low clouds changed our mind. It was on the road all day. We have been on a mixture of narrow, curvy, bumpy state roads which are scenic, and interstate which has also been scenic. We drove the length of New Hampshire, across Vermont, and nearly a quarter of the way westward across NY. We are stopped for the evening with no plans to go out. Homemade nachos sound...Jump to full entry
Oct 1, 2011 - Day 33
This evening the Oneonta High School Class of '61 held it's 50th reunion at the American Legion. We had a great turnout for the event, although quite a few of the local alumni decided not to attend. I was there from AL and we had a couple of guys from CA. All in all, a great weekend.Jump to full entry
Jun 13, 2011 - Road Day!
After awaking this morning we saw Dave was out spreading mulch around Jan's flower beds. So we went outside the RV and Dave and Jan came over to the RV and we were chatting when Jan said to Dave give Tom a ride on the "quad". That is an ATV on 4 wheels. So Dave took it out of the garage and off they went with Tom on the back through the woods. While they were gone Jan was showing me all of her flower beds. They are beautiful as you can see in the photos. They even found what could be from old stage coaches from around the seventeen hundreds...Jump to full entry

/// Wednesday - September 29, 2010 Low Temperature: 60 degrees High Temperature: 74 degrees A travel day. We took our time working through our departure routine, cleaning some mud off the outdoor equipment. After saying our "farewells" to our good friends Doug & Janet Tobey we departed the Wellesly Island State Park at 9:00 AM. Traveling south on I-81 to Binghamton, NY and then east on I-88 to Oneonta. A distance of 232 miles. Traffic was fairly light, road conditions were very good with only a few construction zones and no delays. The...Jump to full entry
