We are still on our scenic drive in Greene County, New York. We just arrived in Prattsville, New York on Highway 23. Prattsville was named after Zadock Pratt, a congressman and prominent citizen. Pratt built a tannery larger than any other in the world at the time, helping it become a major town in Upstate New York. We stopped to take pictures at a nice little beach in Pratt. Dottie picked me up this morning and we went up Rte 23A (winding road up the mountain to Hunter) to Pratt Rock park to do a challenging hike and look for a couple of letterboxes. We have been here as kids but I didn't remember the statues and Dot hasn't hiked the whole loop to and over them. Zadock Pratt was a tanner, horseman, and statesman. He founded the town of Prattsville (who would have guessed!), owned about 1000 horses in his lifetime, and married 5 times, twice to a sister of the previous wife! There are 6 of his favorite horses...
