Sep 18, 2013 - Bear Lake Utah
Sept 18, 2013 – Bear Lake This was a quickie two night stop at a state campground. Just like on Cape Cod once you pass labor day everything closes. Bummer and I really wanted to meander around gift shops. Bear lake for whatever reason has this amazing turquoise colored water (remember this is the northeast corner of Utah). The lake is very large, about 20 miles by 10 miles with a nice scenic road all the way around it. I made one day trip to Logan Utah to pickup my forwarded mail and to explore a little. Route 89 is a very pretty route with...

Jul 7, 2009 - Independence Celebrated, Logan Shines
My daughter, Jennifer, arrived at the Salt Lake City airport on the 1st of July. We took many rides out in the Cache Valley and to some of the small cities like Avon for a picnic beside a stream. The fireworks on July 3rd were spectacular. They were very late getting started since it doesn't get dark here until 10pm but the fireworks were worth the wait. Utah has been a real surprise to us. Neither of us had a clue that Utah had such a beauty. The route we have traveled on US 89 from Az to Logan is one of the most relaxing and beautiful...

Jul 2, 2009 - Jennifer's Visit to Utah
Jenny arrived at Salt Lake City on July 1st from San Jose, CA. I picked her up and we headed for Logan. Once we got her settled in at the RV we drove into town to look at the Utah State campus, downtown and the LDS Temple and the Tabernacle. Logan is a beautiful town and the people are very helpful. When we arrived back at the RV park I went over to the office and found that there was a cancellation for the weekend and we could now stay here until the 7th of July when we leave for Idaho. On the way to Bear Lake we stopped many times for...

Jun 28, 2009 - Bear Lake Utah/Idaho
June 28, 2009 Drive to Bear Lake Utah The Funks picked us up at our RV and drove us east on Highway 89 for 45 miles to Bear Lake. Bear Lake is a natural freshwater lake on the Utah-Idaho border. It is the second largest natural freshwater lake in Utah and has been called the "Caribbean of the Rockies" for its unique turquoise-blue color, the result of suspended limestone deposits in the water. Its water properties have led to the evolution of several unique species that live naturally only within the lake. Bear Lake is over 250,000 years...

May 16, 2008 - Last One Bear Lake
This will be our wrap up from Bear Lake State Park. We ended up staying for ten days free. We would have been happy to pay for our stay in paradise, but the rangers told us we could stay for free. We love this beautiful area, we had a blast. We both agree we have never seen a more beautiful lake. We are all packed up and ready to roll tomorrow. We will be spending the next ten days in Yellowstone National Park. I am adding a few pictures that didn’t make it on any of the updates, I hope you enjoy.

May 15, 2008 - Bear Lake Wildlife Refuge
We had another great day of exploring. We drove through part of the massive Bear Lake Wildlife Refuge. We spotted a ton of birds, but nothing new for my birding list. We were surprised to see quite a few white pelicans in the area, I never would have expected to see them here. Bear Lake Refuge is located in southeast Idaho, about ten miles south of Montpelier. Surrounded by mountains, it lies in Bear Lake Valley at an elevation ranging from 5,925 feet on the marsh to 6,800 feet on the rocky slopes of Merkley Mountain. The refuge office is...

May 13, 2008 - Relaxing & History
We had a relaxing day at home today. We walked Ollie down to the lake and watched him play. We sat outside and watched the birds, we are getting a lot of action at the feeders. Several magpies have found the dishes of seed on the ground and have been devouring them. I have been doing some reading about this beautiful, most interesting area and decided to share. Native Americans prized the the Bear Lake valley as prime hunting ground as well as a meeting place. It was such a gathering in 1819 that Donald McKenzie first saw and named the...

May 10, 2008 - Happy Birthday Jerry!
I have to first mention that today is my babies birthday. Happy Birthday to our awesome son, we can’t believe you are 42 today. We spent the day geocaching and wish you were here with us. This area is loaded with geocaches hidden all around the gorgeous lake. We almost have the place to ourselves. Ollie has been having a ball running without a leash. We found our first cache today at Cisco's Landing. Cisco's Landing is a full service Utah State Parks Concessionaire located on docks in the Bear Lake State Park Marina. We hope all of the...

May 9, 2008 - Bear Lake State Park, Idaho
We are in Bear Lake State Park in Idaho. There are only two of us camping in the whole State Park. We hit the jackpot with this place. It was not officially open because of the frozen water from the cold weather so they offered us a choice of any campsite for FREE. We have a holding tank full of water and will use it and just go for more when we need it and come back. We have 30 amp electric so we are set. This place is fabulous. The lake is called the Caribbean of the Rockies because of its turquoise water. It looks just like waves from...
