Aug 8, 2019 - Carol & Doug

8/7 Wednesday morning we drove to Thousand Trails campground in Monroe, WA. We drove to Bothell, about 40 minutes to Carol and Doug’s home. They took us to Ourback for dinner and we caught up on family news. After dinner we drove to Jane Adams Junior High School, which was brand new when I attended it. It is now a middle school, but still the same building. 8/8 Thursday morning we thought we might ride bike, but woke up to a drizzley rain. We decided to drive past my old home, and around the neighborhood. About noon we picked up Carol and...

Jan 26, 2018 - The Northwest Model Hobby Expo

1-26-18 Northwest Model Hobby Expo The timing of this entire trip was based on the dates of the Northwest Model Hobby Expo held each year around this time in Monroe, WA. This is the biggest RC model show and swap meet in the Pacific Northwest. I was prepared for an RC orgy, meeting old friends and fondling used hobby related items. In my excitement I asked Julie if she would like to tag along at the Expo. She said, “Nope. I’m good. You have fun.” Before heading over to the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, Julie and I took a walk to Starbucks...

Jan 25, 2018 - Anchorage to Seattle

Anchorage to Seattle 1-25-18 The winter trip 2018 began with a plane ride from Anchorage to Seattle/Tacoma. As a general rule, I, (Bob), hate flying. Commercial air travel has become just too brutal for me anymore. Julie doesn’t mind it much because she is a patient person, likes going fast, and her knees bend. On the other hand, she isn’t a big fan of long driving days and road trips down the ALCAN in winter. We have worked out a compromise. This trip will be part flying, part car road trip. Julie worked very hard to make sure my flying...

May 10, 2017 - Melody in Monroe, WA

05/09 After Salem, we headed north of Bellevue, WA and a little east to visit with another of Larry’s cousins, Melody. She is a sibling of the funny group we had dinner with in Lake Oswego. When we met her last year, her husband was away at their cabin and shortly afterwards he passed away unexpectedly so we never got to meet him. After we arrived at camp, Melody came to visit in our coach. Such a lovely and again funny gal (runs in the family). She is learning new skills now as a widow such as mowing the grass, weed eating, changing spark...

Jun 3, 2016 - Cousin Melody

We moved today to Monroe, Evergreen Fairgrounds & Speedway near Snohomish. After setting up, cousin Melody picked us up to go to lunch at a Mexican restaurant on a small lake. She is a bundle of energy and as silly & fun as her sisters said she was. There were lots of stories and catching up to do. This is another first cousin that Larry had never met before today. She was unable to attend the Family Reunion two years ago because of work. She is the sister to the four Kemp siblings we had dinner with last week. The restaurant had a lovely...

Next morning we drove to Monroe Washington and ultimately to our campground called Thunderbird Park. It right next to a river...

May 24, 2013 - Seattle Area

Days 20-24 of The Big Trip On May 20, we moved to the in the Seattle area, where there were more blue skies visible than we'd seen since we crossed the Columbia River. Our planned stop was the Elks Lodge in Burien, just south of Seattle. That didn't work. We arrived to find all but one of their spaces taken. We quickly changed our reservations at our next destination and headed there. First, Clark and I had a challenge. We couldn't get back to the drive by which we had entered the Elks parking lot and the other two exits were so steep, our...

Jul 13, 2011 - Twelve Days in WA Visiting with Friends

We checked in to the Thunderbird RV Park in Monroe (which is an Encore (Thousand Trails) park that is a RPI affiliate). We have stayed here before and the RPI section is across the road from the main section with no sewer connection but next to the river. We can use the dump station in the main park or have the honey pot empty us for a fee. Rich and Gerd invited us for dinner and we were able to visit and catch up a little. Saturday and Sunday we spent the mornings doing things around the Coach and the afternoon and evenings at the Beans....

Jul 1, 2011 - Coburg, Florence Sand Dunes and North to Monroe WA.

Tuesday morning we met with Chad to go over our warranty items and he planned to work on them over the next 2 days. We then packed up Toad with our granddaughter (Chey) and the dogs and headed for Florence. Cori, Doug and the girls were on a week’s vacation in Florence and we were going to get together with them for 2 days. We first went to the Best Western to check-in. It was a little pricey with the $40 for the 2 dogs but it had an indoor pool and hot tub to enjoy with Chey. We went to their rental house and after a little catch-up, we...
