Apr 13, 2007 - Hanoi - Dang Dong (Chinese border)

A deserved 2nd chance... We spent the day walking through Hanoi's Old Quarter and parts of the French Quarter and liked the city much more than before. In the evening we boarded the night train towards Guilin in China. Hanoi's Old Quarter is still very original and its small streets are organised by trading groups. There is a street for example that is packed with shops offering funeral accessories and services, another one sells paint and another one toys etc. Huan Kiem Lake is the Old Quarter's hart surrounded by a charming park. Jan 4, 2007 - Vietnam-Chinese Border (Lang Son)

Oppps... So we got to Hanoi only to realize that there is no way we are going to be able to make it to Beijing on time at the rate we are going... so we had to make the call... standing in the middle of the tourist information in the middle of the afternoon in the middle of Hanoi. We decide to cut out Hanoi and truck right straight through to Shanghai... yes that means we miss Hong Kong as well but what can you do? Just means I have to come back I guess. It was another 4 hour bus to the border...at which we got stuck for the night, yet...

May 3, 2006 - Halong Bay to Lang Son

It was an early start, up at 6.30. Today we had a private boat take us on a cruise around Halong Bay. This was a re-visit for me as I came here on my last tour, but its such a beautiful and idyllic place its not the sort of place you mind re-visiting! Plus I saw different parts of it. We stopped at a cave, which was amazing. Almost on a par with Nerja caves for those of you who have been. Really big and so well lit. They took us about 20 minutes to walk around and then it was back on the boat to stop somewhere to swim for those who wanted...

Feb 9, 2005 - Geburtstag am Neujahr?!?

Anstelle mit den CHinesen ins neue Jahr zu feiern, waren wir alle viel zu mude... Nichts desto trotz kamen wir zum Fruehstueck im Hotel zu unserem Glas Champagner (und ich zu meinem Geburtstagstrunk).... Ist wohl das erste und das letzte Jahr, dass ich am Neujahrstag Geburtstag habe :-) NAch einer tollen Tour auf Halong Bay durch all die Inseln schlug mein Herz dann doch noch etwas hoehr, als wir am Hafen ankamen... denn bis jetzt hatte ich noch kein Visa fuer China....Aber mein Geburtstagsgeschenk wartete auf mich - CHINA VISA - ich war...
