Well, this is supposed to be the dry season, but we have had our share of rain here. We left Hanoi yesterday in the rain and drove 3 and a half hours to Halong Bay. Luckily, the rain stopped when we arrived and we boarded our boat (called a "junk") for our overnight cruise in the bay. Halong Bay is off of the east coast of northern Vietnam that has over 3000 limestone islands the jut out of the sea in all directions and the water here is emerald green. Feb 9, 2005 - Ha Long Bay & the "amazing caves"....

So our wonderful trip to Halong Bay didn't quite go as planned. After being dropped off at the port and waiting half an hour, we were finally informed by a crazy vietnemese girl that our guide had not shown up for work. This was because it was the luner new year and everyone wanted to be home with their families. So we embarked on our journey in a wooden boat (much like those from pirates of the caribbean)with just this crazy girl to look after us.
