Thursday Four and a half hours bumping through Vietnam and our driver finally stopped for gas. We left the hotel at 5:30 this morning. In between tuk tuks, swerves left and right around slow moving vehicles, impatient honks and toots at vehicles, people and animals, and crashing bumps through construction zones, most everyone dozed as best they could. The highway, if that is what it can be called, is lined with houses and little villages. Depending on your vehicle, the speed limit is either 40 or 50 kmh, so progress is slow. As we headed...

Jan 10, 2008 - Chaing Mai north to the Laos border

An all day ride in a mini bus - very nice bus, air conditioned and comfortable seats. It was a seven hour drive with a break for lunch and a stop at a very odd temple - all white. It was done by a Thai artist as a place for his ashes. Quite impressive....but odd. We are saying at a guest house on a hill above the Mekong River - looking across to Laos. Tomorrow it's a boat ride down the Mekong. Monte
